Quick Connect Propane Option

I just realized that our upcoming 21C comes standard with this Quick Connect. Yeah!

A bit confused though. It would appear that all/most outdoor camp grills have regulators on them to bring the pressure to the burners at 11" WC. The Escape Quick Connect is a low pressure connection at only 1" WC.

What outdoor camp grill works on such a low pressure?

The propane pressure supplied to the quick connect is the same as supplied to the furnace, stove and refrigerator: 11 inches of water column. A 1-inch square column of water about 28 inches tall weighs one pound. So 11"WC is less than 1/2 PSI.

Lots of outdoor camp grills and stoves run on gas pressure other than 11"WC; most Coleman propane stoves run at 15PSI. So you'll want to make sure you get a stove that's designed for 11"WC.

Do a search of this forum for "propane" and "quick connect". You'll learn about all sorts of stoves that can use the quick connect and how to find the proper hose and fittings.

Thanks so much!

I bought a Napoleon TravelQ 285 grill and it has a regulator to reduce bottle pressure to 11" WC. Based on your info it looks like this should work without issue.

Do I need to remove the TravelQ regulator or would this still be okay?

Check out this recent discussion to learn about the special kit required to connect a Napoleon TravelQ to an RV quick connect.

My Weber portable barbeque works great. I just removed the regulator and ran the hose straight to it.

Problem is the Weber has only one burner so it lacks the flexibility of the Napoleon with two burners, so you can grill direct or cook indirect. Cooking indirect means placing the food over the unlit burner and controlling the heat on the lit side. Perfect for roasting a whole chicken or slowly cooking ribs or a pork shoulder.

One would hope that leaving the regulator in place would work since the incoming pressure is the same as the regulated pressure. But oh well.

Connecting to the trailer means not have to bring a 20 lb tank along. But it also means your kitchen/cooking location is limited to the hose length to the trailer.

For now, it was a pleasant surprise to see that the quick connect was an included item on the 21C.

Looks like the propane quick connect shows up as a base feature on all models now..

It was an option when I put my build sheet in. I didn't order it but it was on my trailer when delivered in April. Nice that is now standard

Several Camp Chef gas stoves work- but not all. I have their oven/stove combo that does as well as a compact fire ring.

That's just a typo or miscommunication somewhere - it should have been 11" WC. Where did you see or hear that? It might be worth getting it corrected to avoid future confusion.

I attribute the miscommunication to "Old Man Eyes".

This is what I bought on Amazon last year
Cuisinart CGG-306 Chef's Style Portable Propane Tabletop, Professional Gas Grill, Two-Burner, Stainless Steel
I just removed the hose with the regulator and attached the ETI-supplied quick-connect hose.
I like the grill so far. It gets very hot which is a must for grilling steaks. It can also be used for indirect cooking, having 2 burners.
You won't be able to grill whole birds due to limited vertical space, but the grill heats up a bit faster b/c of that.
I did consider other grills but didn't like them as much.

All this cooking talk is making me hungry. Maybe I’ll go to Cab Calloway’s place tonight. I could use some gravy.

I use a camp chef explorer in stainless steel, it fits in the rear outside hatch and is a great cooking machine. be sure to add the leg levelers, wind guard and the side trays for real functionality.

Been there, done that.

At least there isn't an incorrect document to be corrected.
