Re Torquing After 50-100 News Escape 15'

Good Morning All! I am a new Owner of an Escape 15' plan B.

My first question will be for someone in the North Vancouver BC area…
Where do You take Your trailer to Re-Torque the wheel nuts? Considering that I can't manoeuvre My trailer like a Pro, and My main concern is to be backing up and make an accident, If You can sugest a place where I can Re-Torque without the anxiety of small spaces.

Any Help that You can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You can Re-Torque anytime you get out of your car and set the parking brake, or are you looking for a tire shop in North Vancouver to do it for you?

Hi There! The Escape's Gentlemen told Me to Re-Torque after the first 50-100 Miles at a wheel tightness of 90-120 pounds of torque, Also says in the Owners Manual to do it prior to every trip.

A good torque wrench will cost over $100 to start. it can be a worthy investment if you use it a lot. You should be doing the same thing with your tow too, after every rotation or repair, and once every 6 months or so.

I only check my trailer twice a year tops. Once the lug nuts are initially torqued, then checked a short while later, it is very unlikely they would every come loose on their own, but it never hurts to check. Pretty much any tire shop would do it for you though.

If you have a tire shop you regularly use, I would bet they would do it as a free service to you, with two tires it would take 2 minutes tops.

Thanks Jim:
That is what I was told, Any shop will do it, and they will do it properly, the thing is that I need one in North Van. With enough space to manoeuvre for a novice towing driver.

Good Evening from Eugene, Oregon - - - Bill & Jacquie here (and of course Tilly - the - Trillium)

Congratulations on your Great Escape !!!!!!!!

We are part of the team that invite all fibreglass trailers to Bandon, OR. each year and You are invited too. They come from all over Canada and the U.S. One fellow from YellowKnife, NWT made the treck three times!

Your question about torquing the lug nuts is a good one. As has been said before, most tire shops can do the job but some of them just use an air wrench (clatter-clatter-clatter) and don't reach for the 'chrome bar' that goes CLICK! when it has done it's torque job. Ask them to show you the tool and explain it to you. You are not imposing on them because you are a potencial customer. Ask if they carry trailer tires the size you may need.

Now this is the important part! The next day, when you are not towing the trailer, stop somewhere and get a box of donuts and take them to the tire shop, walk to the service desk and thank them again. They will never forget you.

Next time you see Reece and Tammy please say HI! for us.
Bill & Jacquie

You could stop by CAA (333 Brooksbank Ave. N. Van.) for a referral to a good tire shop.

Thank You Bill and Jacquie:
It will be My pleasure to pass by and say Hi to Reace and Tammy from You, And will be a joy to see them with any pretext, They are and have a great staff, It was a pleasure to deal with them in a worry free transaction and with great support and understanding of My inexperience about Trailers.

Thank You for the invitation to Oregon I am looking forward for the next one.

About the Re-torque for My wheel nuts, I was told by David in the orientation course, That any shop will do that for Me, My concern was the parking and backing up thing, but is no longer a concern and I will deal with it when needed.

To make sure the Re-torque of My wheel nuts is appropiate, I will buy a tool that has a scale and clicks when you reach the proper pounds, I was told that the click is loud enough to hear even in a busy street, and that is better to do it this way than with an electric tool...? Well I haven't bought it yet, and I have to find out if this is My best option.

I have one and no intent to ever use it...

There is Highland Chevron at 3150 Edgemont Blvd in North Vancouver. It must be the only gas station in North America that still does auto repair, and has two bays. You won't find it difficult to enter and exit. It also offers full service gas. I'd just stop by to fill up and talk to the attendant about torquing your wheels.

Re: Re Torquing After 50-100 News Escape 15'

Thank You for Your Answer Bagio
You are of great help.
About the Torque tool I bought one already at half price in Canadian Tire, But there is always the option of returning it and maybe never use one.

I will go and check Highland Chevron with My trailer or I will call first to make arrangements.

If I may ask ¿is re-torque really needed? You never planning to use Your torque tool and being experienced with trailer towing makes Me ask this Question.

I checked My weel nuts yesterday and they look and feel tight.

Re: Re Torquing After 50-100 News Escape 15'

I only know that you are supposed to re-torque aluminum wheels a couple hundred k after they've been installed.
I don't know that that is necessary with steel wheels.

My torque wrench is very old. I has a mechanical ( lever? ) scale that is difficult to read. I'm sure yours is much better, but as I near retirement and think about downsizing, I'm wondering what I'm going to do with the torque wrench and all the other tools I've acquired over the years. I have a brand new 6-year-old Wagner power painter. Maybe I'll use the post-hole digger to dig a grave for all my junk.

Better, I think, to get somebody else to do the job, and save the money that the tool would have cost toward retirement.

All that said, you do want your wheels on tight. My buddy got a flat on his tent trailer. That cause the wheel to loosen and that caused the lugs to enlarge the holes in the wheel. New tire and new wheel. Luckily that was all.
