replacement tail lights

I have 2018 21C, and one rear tail light is going bad. I searched and the OEM tail light Bargman 47-54-001 is no longer available.

thanks for reply, the e-trailer light appears to be for boat trailer, submersible, and expensive. I may contact ETI. as I understand it, what they are using now doesn't have same screw holes, so would probably required some fiberglass patching?

I recently repaired some gelcoat damage from tire blowout that turned out well. so, think I can patch any extra hole(s) showing with a shorter tail light.

I'm looking for something generic with same general shape, long and thin, and inexpensive. just thought I'd post topic to see what others have done. there must be some others with failing tail lights that replaced theirs. I think these lights are the same on all ETI trailers. so looking for what others have done. cheers

thanks for link, good info, I read it, think I already saw this some time ago. replacing one light, that's not 100%, has been on my to do list for awhile. unfortunately, I've had a few bigger issues, so light went on back burner til now.

reading the link, I was little confused about wiring, but I just looked at my trailer 21C, and see appears wiring is easy to access, no cutting of vinyl required, yeah!

so just need to source suitable light, probably get 2 so looks same both sides. otherwise appears doable repair, we will see. cheers

I'm working on a replacement for the Bargman that would include an adapter so you could use the same holes to mount it. I have identified the following tail light as the most suitable replacement:

It's not the cheapest one by a long shot ($30), but it is one of the few alternatives that has the correct DOT ratings and lighting features to match the Bargman. Specifically, it includes an integral reflector, which is required to be legal in this application. It also looks like Escape is now using this same light on their new trailers. I have one on order for design reference.

The adapter is going to fit behind it, and basically you bolt the new light to the adapter and then screw the adapter to the trailer. A small pocket in back gives space to tuck the wire splice away. You shouldn't have to tear apart the inside of your trailer to hook it up.

Neato! While the light IS expensive, I spotted this in the specs at eTrailer: Lifetime warranty on LEDs if that means they'll replace the light if they start burning out, it would be worth the expense. The LEDs in the Bargmans on my trailer started burning out the second year of ownership.

That would be great, Bruce. I like the idea of the pocket for the wires so I wouldn't have to try to stuff them back in the holes.

The issue with my first gen. 2015 5.0TA is the back of the trailer where the upper lights mount is curved slightly and when the long light is secured with screws it is stressed just a bit to fit the curve. Whether from warpage or just the stress on the plastic housing, the light soon separates from the trailer. I've begun filling in the space between the light and the fibreglass with ProFlex RV to keep it sealed.

When I run out of spares I'll go to smaller upper lights and your plate might be useful. How will it address being mounted on the curved surface and be any different from the original lights?

I understand repairing small holes in the fiberglass is a fairly simple job as described by Ron in BC elsewhere on the forum so just mounting the smaller lights alone and patching a couple holes may not be a huge issue.

I could definitely make the adapter curved so that more-closely matches the curvature of the trailer. The hardest part would be figuring out how much curve to put in it. Different models might have different curvature. I could just try for a happy medium. Can you upload some pictures? perhaps include a straight edge so I can get an idea of the curvature?

I just went out and looked at my trailer, and behind the tail light is effectively flat. This may be more of an issue for the 5.0 or older trailers? Please post pics and I can provide a curved shim.

Hi,

I have a 2014 21C. I put a straight edge on the fiberglass directly on top of one of the five Bargman taillights on my trailer and found the taillight assembly lays flat on the body of the trailer, exactly following the straight edge. There is no curve there, either horizontal or vertical.

I would likely purchase some of those adapters you're designing so please post here when they are available!

This project is turning into quite a quest, but I've just about got it. I had to upgrade my printer to print glass-fiber-reinforced ASA. On a positive note, this adapter should last the life of the trailer. Just need to do a final test and take some pictures of how it works.

I also managed to find a place where I can buy the replacement tail/marker lights at wholesale in packs of 10. So I might be able to sell the adapters and the replacement lights as a package and keep the total cost down a little bit.

Awesome news, thank you! I just purchased the lights from e-Trailer and expect them to arrive soon. Do you have any idea of when the adapters you're creating will be available? All 5 of my taillights are failing to some degree, and one is completely out. We are thinking of camping just before Thanksgiving and I'm wondering if I might be able to have the new lights in before we go... Thanks again for your work!
