Resealing ceiling and sides

Hi All - I had my 2014 Escape 19 in for repairs of the AC (was not cooling, they think it's the temperature gauge) and the shop offered a free check of the seals. They then called that both the roof and the side seals need repair which includes scraping the existing seals off and replacing them. The quote for each was $850CAD.
Has anyone had this work done before, do you think it is necessary? $1700 seems like a lot of money for this, has anyone had other quotes for this?

Thanks,
Tom

Just curious, is "the shop" in this case ETI, or another entity?

If the latter, a call and forwarding pics to ETI to discuss their services might be worthwhile as a second opinion.

Roof and side seals... WHAT roof and side seals? There aren't any roof seals except those around the vents and there aren't any side seals. What exactly are these people talking about?

Not ETI - a local RV dealer.

They mentioned the seals around the AC, fan, vent, etc.

Okay, but only you can decide if what they'd charge is worth it to you. AND make certain the caulk they'll use is NOT silicone

I'm finding the older I get the more I'm willing to pay others to do the work. Sweat equity was for when I was much younger

Good luck!

I'd ask the shop their opinion of the implications of deferring the suggested work.

I'd also ask them to provide pics of all of the 'seals' in question. Methinks they may be referring to self-adhesive or glued-on resilient rubber / foam 'weather stripping' which serves to fill gaps between various moving / vibrating components in the AC unit under its cover.

If that's the case, I'd certainly get a second opinion of need and the not insignificant cost.
ETI should be able to provide that.

I certainly don't recall anyone else here undertaking or having such work needed or done, but perhaps your trailer has 'aged' a bit more than many.

Just for your consideration, Good Luck!

Let me guess, North Shore RV. If it is I'd get another opinion.

While it can be a good idea to clean up the old and use a bit of new Proflex caulk, that price seems outrageous. Come to Calgary with a case of beer and some caulk and I will do it for free. The beer will be consumed afterwards.

Really? I thought it'd be during with Scotch afterwards.

Well, that would be after a couple beers.
