Screen Door Mounting Screws

The screen door on our Escape 21 is loose . The sheet metal screws attaching the screen door to the hinges are only screwed into the thin aluminum framing of the door and have pulled out . I could use bigger sheet metal screws but that seems like only a temporary fix
Anyone have any ideas how to secure the screen door to the hinges that won’t. pull out ?

Rivets? Drill additional holes so you can spread the load out among more fasteners?

Yes, I believe the new style screen door is secured with rivets.

Hi Steve
How about threaded pop rivet inserts, “nutserts” and machine screws? I know it depends upon clearances etc but could be washered and retightened without stripping out. Just a thought.

As long as adding the rivet nut's flange thickness between the parts doesn't cause a fit problem, I think this is an excellent thought.

I remounted the screen door today and after a couple hours work I got it to open / close & latch
It appears that they made the door fit the opening , not the opening fit the door
In order to get the screen door to work / latch they bent the hinges , shimmed the latch with a pieces of scrap cardboard and twisted the door ( Door margin was way off )
I installed SS machine screws to attach the door to the hinges , fixed /straightened the hinges , reshimmed the latch plate with a plastic shim and painted everything to match
Heading to McGregor Iowa next week so we will see how my handy work performs and if it passes inspection by Iowa Dave .

the Big Mississippi rally in September? Hopefully the flooding will be long gone.

She’s flowing pretty good down in southern Iowa and Illinois right now. I think it’s crested at Thompson but the next two weeks will still be touch and go depending on rains in eastern Iowa, SW Wisconsin and Illinois. September is a whole summer away. I think we will be ok but Corky and I will keep tabs on Thompson.

I spoke with Corky yesterday and he is okay where he is on the river and explained why there was flooding downriver. He also mentioned all the work the park crews have to take when the river recedes and they come in and clean up, what a mess.
