Suburban Stove recall notice?

Is it just me or has anyone else not received their Suburban stove top recall notice in the mail?

I haven't, but I had contacted Suburban last month, after I asked Escape about the recall, and then found an RV shop (not a new-RV dealer, not on Suburban's list) that was able to get a replacement SDS2 cooktop; have an appointment to get it installed on July 8th.

I did get my notice. Escape video says to get the serial number from underneath- just a heads-up, I sent that to Suburban, but was then asked for a photo of the data plate also (on the side of the trailer with weights etc.). My rig was still in the storage facility, so this will cost me another hour round trip to get that photo, would have been nice to know ahead of time.

I stated a thread "Stove Installation Cost" on June 23.

I did mention the photo requirement.

Maybe the two threads could be combined.

In ETI June update they said they have not mailed them yet. They also said U.S will get one mailed and Canadian customers will get a email instead.

I just got my email today. I had already started the process anyway.
In todays Escape Q & A they mentioned that in Canada they can send an email but for the US they have to send snail mail and some might have moved etc.

I did read your post, but you said info sticker inside the closet- I thought you meant under the stove. My info sticker with the GCVW etc. is on the outside driver side , so that threw me!

I think that at first they wanted the serial number which is under the stove and then when I told them the RV place I wanted to use they asked for a photo of the trailer specifications showing the SDS2 was listed as being installed.

The RV place that I'm using hadn't yet contacted Suburban after a week but said they would because a second person has come in with the same request. Hope I don't have to keep reminding them that they have to call Suburban.

I contacted Suburban by email from their website. I then sent a photo of my camper’s data plate and the serial number on the bottom of the cooktop, as they requested in a reply to my email. I was then directed to locate a service center who would contact suburban and order the cooktop. It was suggested that I use a service center listed on their website. I did and it was GanderRv, an affiliate of Camping world. On week later they still had not figured out how to order the cooktop. I called a local rv service center and had the cooktop ordered within thirty minutes. Take away: you don’t need a notice and you may not want to use Suburban suggested service center.

Don't know about Emails, I called Correna at Suburban in Tennessee, she gave me directions on pics, sent them to her, had service center of my choice call her. Walaa they are sending replacement to service center. Just waiting on arrival. Easy peasy.

Replacement SDS2 cooktop installed Friday at TimbuktuRV in Worcester, MA (20 miles from our home in Framingham). This is an RV repair shop (sell some used RVs, but not a new dealer; they have a good store of RV parts.

Timbuktu charged me their one-hour rate of $130 for installation and testing, so I'll get only $100 of that reimbursed by Escape. Suburban provided the cooktop at no charge.

If you're anywhere near Worcester, you can contact Cassandra LeBlanc at TimbuktuRV.com

I got a question, I wonder if it's possible to ship the stove to the dealer but install it yourself. For me, the hassle of bringing the trailer to the shop is much greater than spending an hour or so installing myself.

I asked that question directly to Suburban. The answer was no. The dealer also has to make the request directly to Suburban.

I'm not sure of the legalities if the stove is directly shipped to an RV place on the basis that they're qualified installers and they simply hand the stove over to you to install. If anything went wrong maybe it'd be a problem for them.

And what's in it for them if they do?

The best that I could do is get a quote based on me removing the existing stove and they do an install only.

Probably wouldn't affect the charge much.

I was able to get the shop to do the install while I waited, which was a boon, saving me a second trip.

I got my letter today, and I don’t even have the Suburban. I thought it would be for the defective quick connect which I do have. I was surprised it was for the stove I don’t have.
