Indeed! Now to go find that electrical tape and tape that button so it doesn't get bumped into the off mode...like it has a couple times already....

Red face surge protector

We went with the Camco "dog bone" protector/circuit analyzer (Walmart) at the suggestion of the Casita factory..kept it when we sold the cassy and plan to keep on using it..chained to the post every time to dissuade sticky fingers.. So far, so good.

That looks like a good substitute as I had a portable one before the hard wired. I did run into some cg with low power pedestals where the portable one would not work.

Greg,

In 2017, I chose to use my portable surge protector and did not order the EMS from Escape Trailer Industries (ETI).

In December, 2019, my portable surge protector went out and I ordered and installed the unit that ETI offers. I really like it.

If I had do-overs, I would order it on my build sheet.

Regards,

Fred M.

Have to agree on the hard-wired surge protector install. For reference, here's what mine, under driver side dinette seat, looks like.

Surge protectors are a waste of money!

Until you need one. Never needed one until we completely fried our converter box in our Casita, along with a half to dozen others in the campground. If I remember right we spent $4-500 to have a new box installed and another $100 or so for our Progressive Industries full bells/whistles surge protector. The five year old Progressive Industries protector was sold with our Lance camper since we were going to have the ETI supplied protector installed in our new 5.0.

A year ago the couple who purchased our Lance called and informed me moisture had gotten into the protector, so it no longer worked, and would I claim the warranty for them. I asked them to put the protector in their oven at 150 degrees for a day to dry it out. They haven't called back. We were camping with our friends with a Progressive Industries protector this past week and guess what? Their similar PI protector no longer works and has moisture in the screen. I'm guessing they already have their surge protector in the oven.

I'm glad we have a surge protector and that it is inside, out of the weather.

Enjoy,

Perry
