Sylvania Dot.it lights

I just added a Dot.it linear swivel light to the inside of the cupboard just forward of the door on the right side. That happens to be where we keep first aid and other small items, like Kleenex packets. It's the one dark cupboard in the trailer. I used magnets with adhesive on one side to mount it to the ceiling so I can take it down easily to replace the batteries. It has a touch sensor on / off switch which makes it easy to turn on and off without looking.

Cost $9.99 and runs on three AAA's

I've got another on the inside of the bathroom door for trips in the middle of the night. The door itself blocks that light from disturbing my wife back in the double bed.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

These are indeed great lights - first thing I did when I got the trailer is put two in, one over the sink and one over the table at the rear of the trailer. Enough for cards and dishes.

I like the cupboard idea - the number of times I've gone through my cupboard pulling out random things on my search makes me shake my head. Alas, no longer.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

Costco was selling some LED lights a few months ago and I got some but haven't even opened the package, since I'm saving them for my forthcoming "Wolf Den" (Tentative name).
I won't be back home until Thursday, I cannot tell the brand name, but if anyone is interested, I will be glad to share more info.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

Was at Can Tire today and I see that Sylvania now offers a waterproof Dot.It.

They have also improved the mount. It comes with adhesive Velcro rings, making it much easier to change the batteries.

Well, I plan to work at home tomorrow, and I might be able to shoot some pix, but I'll have to charge double-time.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

My son-in-law got some of those "dot-its" and it doesn't stick anymore. Can it be restuck permanently or should he mount it with velcro stick-its?
Also, aside from the range hood and stovetop, are there other surfaces inside the Escape for magnet use, such as hooks etc?

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

I just installed a new Dot.it at the office ( warning light that the studio is in use ). And, as I recall, the new mount used Velcro. So Sylvania has anticipated your question. Go with Velcro.
And, the new light is waterproof.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

Thanks for the update. What about magnetic surfaces (other than the range hood and stovetop)?

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

I don't know of any magnetic surfaces, except the range hood. I'm going to have Reace show me locations for mounting with screws next time I'm out in Chilliwack.
So far, I've mostly used double-sided adhesive tape. I mounted a paper towel holder above the sink that way because I wanted to be sure the location worked before using screws. Doesn't appear that I really need to add screws. All my hooks are mounted the same way.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

I've seen magnetic paper towel holders, but am ambivalent about getting one. Tammy said hers is mounted (with screws I think) above the sink, underneath the cabinet.
Is there such a thing as magnetic paint? I found some adhesive magnetic sheets at Michaels (a craft store) but I don't want to stick anything adhesive to the "not quite wood" surfaces.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

No magnets holding my paper towel holder, just double-sided adhesive tape, but lots of it. I'll shoot a pic this afternoon.

Paper towel holder etc

If you look closely you can see I was a bit too generous with the double sided tape.

The black strap on the paper towel is to keep it from unraveling when traveling. I do the same with the TP. Elastic band would work just fine.

The toothbrush holder and mirror were supposed to stick up with a suction cup, but I've added double sided tape. You can also get soap holder, bin for shampoos etc.
Available at Urban Barn.

Re: Sylvania Dot.it lights

Hi: All... The easiest way to keep the "Charmin" etc. from unrolling is to "Squeeze It" so the cardboard tube in the center of the roll is oval shaped instead of round!!! Ask me how I know
