Tail Lights Warping?

It's a little confusing to see both the 15 & 21 with large upper tail lights and the 19 with the smaller ones. After reading about the warping of the large one I would specify the smaller ones if I could do it over.

There was some debate a while ago about safety, but that was when there were no lights above, or they were an option. Now, with they observation that heat can warp those larger lenses causing water intrusion it seems curious that there are different lenses shown for different trailers.

I believe the smaller lights you refer to in the Escape 19 build are marker lights which are standard on the 19 and required due to it's length. You can order an extra set of tail lights which are mounted vertically on each side of the rear window, but those small ones do not function as tail lights as the larger ones on the bottom nor as the optional ones installed.

Wide-vehicle identification lights (the group of three in the middle) and clearance lights (on each side and separate from the tail lights; usually on top but not required to be there) are required on trailers wider than 2 metres or 80 inches. That means the 19-foot, 21-foot, and 5.0TA. While these are the longer trailers, it is the width - not the length - that leads to the requirement.

Anything beyond the basic set of left and right stop/turn/tail is not required by law and is an option or owner addition.

I think we can chalk the warping lights up to a flaw in the manufacture of that particular batch of lights. We have been installing these lights up high on trailers for quite a few years now and to my knowledge, I have only heard of a handful that have warped.

The 21' and 5.0 have a molded flat spot across the top of the rear window to accommodate the large light whereas the 19' doesn't.

Hope that helps.
