Yup. I know. They used to build houses out of them. Took me an afternoon with high pressure water and a stiff brush to clean the wheel wells.

Kate, I don't know if I answered in this thread and I'm not going to read it to find out . I too have road paint on Ten Forward. I found a plastic spoon would 'pop' it off the gelcoat. The plastic spoon didn't scratch the gelcoat. It just took some work and I'm not done yet. You're actually lucky you can see it. The white, not so much, I have to find it by feel. Which isn't the same as it will never be seen..

They make plastic scrapers too, but if you have a spoon, and it works...

older that paint gets, the harder it will be to remove.

I'm not sure how much older it needs to get, in my case. I drove through the paint on my way to the 2015 Escape Rally. Every time I wash Ten Forward, I chip away at more splats. Doubtful I'll ever get it all off, but who knows... ten years of chipping away? Just so everyone knows, you can't see it. It's on the bottom door side edge of the trailer. I did get it all off the front (under the loft) and the awing arms. Just bugs me.

Only on the trailer I would use acetone if at home. It cleans fibreglass real fast of all kinds of contaminants. Trailer gelcoat is basically a coloured polyester resin. I have used it many times, as does Escape.

However do not use it on paint unless you are looking to remove it.

gasoline evaporates too fast. I prefer using kerosene or diesel or WD40, gives me some time to melt and wipe the goo up.

I cleaned and polished my Escape soon after I purchased it and it's the best thing I've done. The shiny surface is very easy to clean.

Tar removal

WD-40 works best for removing road tar. Mechanics use it to clean their hands after a messy job!

John, not sure if you are joking or not, but I have indeed used peanut butter upon occasion, specifically to clean my knife when camping with the Boy Scouts some years ago. Worked well enough.

Hi Jim
I have a peanut butter story I’ll tell you next time we camp together. Not crude or mean, just socially unacceptable these days.
