Tip for packing for your trip to Chilliwack

Hi Everyone,

Just arrived in Seattle from Cleveland, OH. Hanging out here for two days (lived here for 7 years) and then on to Chilliwack!!!

But this is to share with those who may be traveling with their tow vehicle with a huge load to transfer to their Escape.

A friend helped me tremendously the last two days before leaving Cleveland. She shared a trick she learned on Tiny Houses. I measured the inside of the Tahoe and then laid out the space with tape on the floor of my condo. We first staged everything in that space to be sure it would all fit.

Then loaded the Tahoe and . . . though we changed a few things, perfect fit!!! (that's my friend, Cher, not me)
p.s. Anyone recognize that red and tan bag?

Great tip. Looking forward to the new production schedule. What size Escape are you getting. We live in the Cleveland area and would love to see your camper maybe sometime if you would be open to it.

Wow, what organization! I don't have to go to all that work though because I have a PhD in packing.

Just Pile it Higher and Deeper

Yah, handy bag from the rally.

Have a good maiden voyage.

If you put the tape outline in the cargo bay of the Tahoe you can save even more time!

Heck, there was still TONS of room in the back. You still had lots of room for more stuff. I've driven half way across the country and back with my FJ wadded literally to the roof, including the passenger seat with a huge cooler (traveled by myself).

Glad you made it safely on the outward bound trip. Enjoy our cool weather! You missed the wind and rain on Saturday.

Well, the organization isn't quite the same now. I should post a photo of the front passenger seat! Well, actually, no I shouldn't!

Yup, that's the bag. Had been saving it for the trip!

Thanks, Ron!

That's true. Would probably have gotten better gas mileage as well!

I know! Visiting Dave and Bob from Canada first (met them at the Rally -- really great guys!).
Just checked out Camano Island State Park - talked to the Ranger for almost 45 minutes. Plan on staying there after coming back from Canada. I'd sure better learn the systems because he said I may be the only one camping there the end of October!!!
Thanks, Linda!

You're right! I didn't want to load it to the roof though--figured I'd take advantage of seeing out the back window while I can.

Yes, have been extremely lucky the entire trip, weather-wise. Drove up to Camano Island State Park this morning to check it out (will stay there on the way back) and had the first rain the entire trip on I-5. Even then, was light and sporadic. The ranger at Camano Island DID say that they can get very strong winds there. He also said I may be the only one camping there the end of October. Am thinking maybe I should get my dog sooner rather than later.

Thanks for the post!

Glad to hear you got out OK! Packing can be an issue even with a Silverado. The truck bed was full to the brim since the 90 lb dog took up most of the back seat. He did have to share it with snacks and a cooler. Enjoy!

Ohhhhh, poor dog (Lab, right?), had to sniff snacks the entire time. Had to be torture for him!

Thanks, skiman!!!

I have a question for forum smart folks... FSF shortened. I'm in the same boat ... oh .... er ... trailer as Ellen. Here I show up at Canadian Customs with a huge bunch of new stuff claiming it to be goods for my new trailer ....

Will they believe me? or will I be charged duty on it?

In Sept. of this year I crossed over into Canada and fessed up to the agent that "I did have things I intended to leave behind in Canada" I told the agent it was for my new trailer being built by ETI (it was only a kitchen sink and faucet). He let me go through duty free. But what if I was bringing a mountain of gear?

I have thought about getting a motel room states side and loading my gear there ... later after import across border is done, return to hotel room to load up.

What do you guys think? .... I don't know.

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Ellen,
My 17A is almost done and ready to leave on 10/22. Due to work obligations (the poorest excuse ever ) I won't be able to pick up until early Jan. Or at least that is how it looks now. Good luck to you!!!

Recommend a trip around the Olympic Peninsula as a first try out trip.
