Torn awning

Does anyone know of a material that can repair a torn awning as depicted in the attached photo? We are camped in Assateague Island SP, and a 70mph wind whipped thru, lasted under a minute and it was calm again. The ranger came thru 10 minutes later to warn us about it.
Gorilla tape is OK for now, but if I can do a more permanent repair that isn't too ugly rather than replacement, that would be my preference.

Any tape is better than nothing, but I'd investigate other methods, such as removing the cover from the slot, a sewing repair done at a canvas shop. The RV shops and even big box stores sell an awning repair tape, probably Camco branded. Can the awning fabric be shortened a couple of inches and reused?

An inquiry to the awning manufacturer with your photo could provided some help.

Any tape is......a band aid. Check out long term repair paths.

There are sailboat sail repair tapes that are thin and might be better than some regular tapes. I've used them on sails, and they adhere well to the Dacron fabric of a sail.

Since it is close to the roll…can you cut it off at the rip and reattach it to the roller. It would only be a touch shorter by a few inches if you did not have/need so much overhang.

If you wanted the overhang you could also cut it and sew back on the flap that hangs down with the seam beyond the attached point.

Padre: Glad to see you back at Assateague. That is where I had the pleasure of meeting you right about this time last year.

As far as the awning I’m sorry to hear this happened. I don’t want to be a pessimist but that’s a tough spot for a long term repair unless you find a place able to do heavy duty sewing. If you are fully disassembling to try to repair you might as well go new IMO. For standard fabric from Carefree you are looking at around $350 delivered. At least that is what I paid last year. Install was not too difficult. If you were headed up my way I’d offer to help.

If you end up disassembling to repair or replace be very careful with the wound spring inside the roller tube. This is a great video highlighting removal and reinstalling awning fabric on a Carefree awning:

Back home in NEPA, having a second look. I think a full fabric replacement is the best path forward.
Any suggestions for best source?

My 2014 E21 uses a Carefree of Colorado "Fiesta" awning. Made from top grade Sunbrella fabric. They sell replacement fabric and various repair parts, but the bent legs on the classic e21 are not available anymore

The older classic e21 used a 12x6.5 ft awning. Most Fiestas are 8 ft, not 6.5

Hi: Padre... That doesn't look like the standard Care Free of Coll. fabric. Did they change it? Alf

Alf, the paper in the literature packet supplied by Escape says "Carefree Fiesta", with a serial number and part number, so I assume it's standard.

standard available colors here,
https://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/r...ioPremiumVinyl

btw, guess I was wrong about them using Sunbrella fabrics, now its described as 'premium vinyl with Weatherguard

anyways, I've found Carefree's customer service to generally be quite good, although my older style awning caused them to have some confusion about the arms when I had to replace one.
