Tow Vehicle

I own a 2016 Nissan Frontier 4 x 4 crew cab/short box. Is anyone out there pulling a 5.0TA with that vehicle? Does this vehicle work with that trailer? Why or why not?

Welcome Bernie,
As a newcomer, please browse the various threads, one is "It's Friday" where pictures of trailers being built are shown. Yes there is at least one member here towing the 5.0 TA with a Frontier, Alf aka as Escape Artist tows with one. If you go to the tab up top here that says "Community" you can find him and then ask him a question, either here of via private message.

Tow vehicles are such an important part of using a trailer that it is often suggested that the tow vehicle could be listed as part of the member's profile... but for now it is only there when someone like Jim (cpaharley2008) puts it in the trailer description. You can find those with a Google search directed to just look at member profiles; for example a Google search of just "www.escapeforum.org/forums/members/" for "hemi" finds several members driving Ram trucks with Hemi engines, including Jim.

Okay, then a Google search directed to just look at member profiles for "Frontier" and "5.0TA" might be useful... and indeed when it try that (just click the link) that finds Alf (escape artist) as the first match. It returns only one more - D&R_MA with a 2014 5.0TA and a 2007 Frontier - but most people don't have this much information in their profile.

Although the 5.0TA model has only been produced for a couple of years, and so there could not be many people who have one and tow it with that specific truck, the combination does get discussed, so a more general Google search of the forum for "Frontier" and "5.0TA" finds quite a few discussions. Happy reading...

Please read the previous discussions, but the points that come to mind for me are:
  • Care must be taken with the pin weight, passenger weight, and cargo in the truck, so avoid exceeding the allowed payload of this mid-sized truck.
  • There are two bed lengths available - longer is better for clearance between the trailer and the truck cab, and the longer bed means a longer wheelbase which is always good for stability and ability to handle hitch weight in any vehicle, but the short bed can still work.
  • A properly equipped Nissan Frontier certainly can be a satisfactory tow vehicle for an Escape 5.0TA, if you watch your loading.
