Under mattress Hypervent / Aire-Flow

What are people using under their mattresses to prevent mold? We have found a few products (hypervent, Aire-Flow, Den Dry) and are wondering if there is any difference among them, other than price, and which one is best if there is a difference?

Another question, do you just lay it flat, or run it up the walls a little? Are there any problems with making the bed after putting it down?

The liner from here https://www.mattressinsider.com/matt...revention.html
offers a discount. This liner is not as rough as hypervent. I install a pice underneath and around the perimeter if it touches an exterior wall. Depends on which model. Your avatar shows E21 and E19??

I am interested in this as well, We used Dry Deck tiles from West Marine in our Casita and have enough to put them in our Escape, and probably will at least for awhile, but if there is something else more practical I am all in.

its actually a Full XL, which is the length of a queen but around 6" narrower, making it the width of a Full. 54x80. fitted queen sheets work if you tuck the extra sides in.

it also has a corner nicked out of so you don't bark your shins walking past.

Amazon has numerous Full XL sheets (54x80).

Another to consider: Modular Froli Sleep Systems by Nickle Atlantic, LLC
Having lived on a boat for 20 years, mostly in San Francisco Bay, this system looks cheap! The other thing that worked was wooden oak slats, sold as unfinished hardwood flooring. Space them about 10mm [3/8"] apart. Cheaper, but you have to have an open frame to screw them to. The Froli system can be installed over plywood. And will support a bunch more weight!

This may be a dumb idea but how about getting a hole saw and drill lightening holes in the plywood deck to provide ventilation?

Those look like they should work. Have you tried that? Did you put anything between the edge of the mattress and the wall?

The IKEA Lonset slats do also make the bed more comfortable. Only issue is their tedious assembly, and lifting everything when you need to open the hatch. Never had any issues along the walls but in winter we do line them with long skinny WalMart pillows as an extra comfort barrier against the cold.

:-) Been there, done that. While living on the boat, my first effort at dealing with the moisture (and resulting mold and mildew on the underside of the mattress) was using a 1-1/2" hole saw to cut many, many holes in the plywood. Minor disaster. The holes were sufficient to weaken the plywood and let it sag. The spaces between the holes were still big enough to stop the moisture from fully evaporating.

The bigger the air gap under the mattress the better. The contact with the non-woven products is minimal. The Froli "pads" contact the mattress over a very small area. Slats will do if they have plenty of circulating air under them (such as a large locker not filled to the top) but the slats ought to have a finish such as varnish on them so they do not soak up moisture.

The idea you came up with cannot be dumb, IMHO. I too came up with that idea. =) Great minds think alike...

We are also a fan of the IKEA slatted bed base. we picked up our form the As-IS section for $20. Trimming the slats is easy to fit the escape bed & allow access to the storage hatch

It looks like it is in 2 pieces so to get to the storage under the bed do you just remove the 1 piece after you lift up the mattress? Do you use anything between the mattress sides and the wall? I am assuming you have a 21?

RE: remove one half... The mattress is heavy and unwieldy so that's not an easy thing to do. I found it's better getting to the hatch by just propping everything up with a 2x4 cut to size.

After doing some work in the bedroom of our 19 we just re installed our mattress. What a pain that was.
I think Reace needs to do a how to video on the correct method of mattress removal and replacement!

YEs the Queen is 2 frames set next to each other.
I trimmed the slats to fit into the 21 bed ( including the cut off corner).
also cut one side to the same size of the hatch only this piece needs to be removed.

The barrier from Mattress Insider mentioned above works well and is easier on the hands during install than the Hypervent. We also use this in the winter during storage: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. We open the cupboards and prop up the hatch to the benches and everything stays warm and dry. Some people say it doesn't work but it's been great for us here in the wet Santa Cruz mountains.
