This past summer after lots of kilometers travelled, one axle had the tires start to wear on the outside of them, one worse than the other. I talked to Dustin at Escape who said the best thing at this time is to take it to a good axle shop and have them access the issue and if it was possibly a warranty issue they would go through Dexter to repair. I did email Dexter who told me pretty much the same thing. I took it to Standen's, a company I have used for tuning up axles on my dump trailer and a few other things. It ended up being a bit of a bend in the axle. For a moderate cost they straightened it out ensuring good alignment of the wheels and also ran a check on the other axle. I haven't had time to really check the repair out, but I am getting new tires in the spring and will watch.

Not sure just how I caused the axle damage, but they said there are many things that could have done it and that it really was not that bad, but still needed repair.

My dump trailer was wearing tires out bad and was getting expensive to replace them, and after the repair by Standen's I put on a new set of four tires that lasted forever.

Dexter has a list of shops that have the ability & expertise to fix axles by straightening them.

Thanks, that's good to know. My first step is to contact Escape, send them the pictures, and ask what they think the problem is. Because the wear on the back tires is worst on the inside of the tire but obviously not limited to the inside, I'm starting to wonder if my WDH isn't set right. An Escape technician set it up on my truck when I picked the trailer up in 2018. It's the same truck, and I always assumed it was perfect.

So my first question to them will be, do you think this is caused by the WDH transferring too much weight to the back of the trailer?? If so, it would be an easy fix. Obviously, I would prefer not to have to install a new axle if it's not really needed! But, it's good to know if the axle is the problem, I can get it fixed.

I have a hard time believing it has anything to do with the WDH. Even if not set right it would not cause wear like this. I would bet that it is a bit of a bend in the axle. As I posted earlier I phoned Escape about it when I discovered I had excessive wear on the outside of both tires on the front axle and got a call back from Dustin in short order and a follow up email later that day. His suggestion to take it to an approved axle shop is what I did. They straightened it and checked the other axle for not too bad of a cost. I do have to travel a ways to see how well it worked but when they did that for my dump trailer it worked out fantastic and is still good over 10 years later.

Just had a similair experience with Dexter. Had drivers side front tire wearing on the inside. Took the trailer to a axle and frame specialist and they measured the alignment and found it was off. They can't adjust alignment on these axles, so I sent the report as well as pictures to Dexter. They replaced the axle, agreed to pay 1.5 hours for labour and replaced the worn tire. Everything was agreed to within 3 days. Pretty outstanding I would say

Nice to hear Dexter continues their excellent warranty support. From what I read on other RV forums, axle warranty replacements are more common than I expected.
