For us it works great for most devices, especially since ditching the electronics is part of the experience. However, when attempting to distract a screaming child via the electronic pacifier, waiting for the laptop to trickle charge just doesn't cut it.

laptops definitely require specific chargers, even the USB C ones. most USB car chargers, including USB C ones, are good for things like phones, tablets, usb speakers, and so forth.

my favorite USB C car charger is the Anker PowerDrive III Duo, which has up to 36 watts of USB C "PD" pookah. These do 5V up to 2.4 amp (12W), 9V at 2A (18W), and 12V at 1.5A (also 18W), and auto sense so they work with a range of devices including the non-standard Qualcomm stuff. Both ports can deliver the full output levels, and each individual autosenses whats plugged into it.

this fast charges my Pixel 3a phone, my wife's Pixel 3a XL, my Huawei MediaPad M5 tablet, my JBL Charge 4 speaker. I also hard wired a dual USB "A" 2.1 amp charger in the trailer, which I use for things like USB lanterns that expect a USB A or use a cord with a USB Micro B connector... a A to C cord on a 5V 2A charger will charge my phone 'fast' but not 'rapidly'.

Or this one which is 45W. It charges my USB-C devices such as my laptop nicely. It’s available on Amazon.

both my and my wife's laptop are more like 90 watts, although that much power is only used if the battery is over 50% depleted AND you're running stuff that hammers on the laptop cpu and display.

I'll second that recommendation for the Nektek. We've got two, one for the trailer, and one for the tow vehicle. We charge a Google Pixel Slate, Dell XPS 13, and IPad pro regularly without any problems. While we have an inverter and could just go with the AC adapter, it's nice to have the capability of charging a laptop directly from the 12v system and not have to carry extra AC adapters.
