USB TV Tuner and Antenna?
Has anyone used a usb tv tuner with outside HDTV antenna to get tv on their notebook computer? I'm not interested in adding a tv when I will already have my notebook with me. The USB tuner route would take care of the issue, assuming it works!
Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm going the same direction. I don't want a large television when I already have my notebook.
I purchased the Hauppauge HVR 955Q from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and this omnidirectional antenna made by ANTOP. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm not an expert on televisions, antennas or any of this technology. I've had it for about two weeks and have been able to test it to verify it works. The first test was with my home, directional antenna. It was able to search the channels and found 19 in my remote area. Most of them were strong enough to watch comfortably. I then attached the device to the omnidirectional antenna. It found all 19 channels, but the signal wasn't as strong. The channels with a weak signal, would stop and buffer the signal and then play for a few seconds.
Hope this helps.

I used one for a couple of years and they work well.
But then I decided that there's lots of room in the 19 and TV's are so much slimmer etc. that I may as well install a TV and an outside antenna.
I used OTA at home for years. In the right area you get a great picture. The only drawback to the stubby stick tuner is the antenna does't work nearly as well as a larger and higher one.
Worth having for use near cities where the signal is strong.

This is an ATSC format one. There's lot's of cheaper DVB ones but I'm not sure if they'd work or not.

I used one till I went to windows 10, no longer supported. I haven't looked into it again since 10 came out as I bought a small tv. They had done away with media center.

We cut the cord about 7 years ago and have Winequard directional antennas on roof . The directional antennas work much better then Omni directional . Pat

I have an Elgato EyeTV USB stick tuner that I have used with my MacBookPro, but to be honest, while it works, I don't really watch that much TV & it is a bit of a pain to set up, particularly because you need to scan for channels every time you move to a new location. A problem with all TVs; maybe that is why I prefer books. I got a second solar panel rather than a TV antenna with my 21 - far more practical!

I also have an Elgato EyeTV we use with our iMac. We connect it to our Jack antenna. The combination works well, but as Jon says it is a pain to set up, so we don't use it often.
