Vehicle / Trailer Tracker

We talk about various ways to lock the hitch or otherwise keep our rolling cabins from disappearing, but when our best efforts fail...

Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge about tracking devices? What brand is good, what works, what to avoid, etc?

I'm considering installing a tracking device hidden away and hard wired into the 12v system for power. This eliminates the concern of a battery going dead or having to be replaced or recharged. We can give our kids access to the data so they can keep track of mom and dad, it would document our travels for future information, and should the worse happen it would give us a chance of recovering our trailer, but it's hard to find good data on the various units that are available.

Any knowledge, thoughts or information will be appreciated!

Safe travels, Doug

Spot is popular but if I were to get something it would probably be the Trak-4

I have the Trak-4, works and the yearly fee was cheap. Battery life is 4-6months. Only complaint, once in a while get a false alert.

Thank you for this information, and for the link to the previous discussion. I had not seen it. Good arguments for not using a tracker, and it sounds like the SPOT or Trac-4 are the way to go if one wants one.
