Vent Cap Gasket?

My plumbing vent stack has what looks like weather stripping hanging out - I assume it’s a ‘gasket’ - does anyone know how to disassemble it to fix?

Sorry for the poor pix. Thanks!

That is your bath exhaust fan. The foam the manufacturer uses for the Ventline Vanair fan is a poor excuse for a gasket. The lid should come off with a couple of screws from the top. I have not done it but others have used a 8" pressure cooker gasket glued in the Gorilla glue to fix the issue. See this thread

Funny coincidence. Was up on roof of both the 17 & 19 yesterday. Replaced both w new weather stripping. 1/4 inch size. Ace didn’t have the pressure cooker stuff.

Thanks, Rubicon - Like Mucram, I too replaced the old ‘gasket’ with weatherstripping I had lying around…I figured if the previous lasted two years, the new should last at least as long, and it’s simple to replace again.

My bath roof vent had been leaking when it rains hard. Taking a look, I found that there was no lap sealant around the base of the fan on the roof.

When adding a bead of sealant today, I noticed what looks like a small (3/16") hole in the base that is flush with the roof of the trailer. Does anyone know if this is a drain hole that I should leave open? I am not sure if this is a likely place for rain to enter or an intentional hole for drainage out should water get into the fan/motor.

As long as your cap gasket is in good shape and in place and your cap is firmly pulled down, the little drain slot will function to drain away any moisture that might invade that area as you drive down the road. That’s our experience. The gasket and the sealant (we use Proflex) sealant are key. In my opinion. YMMV

That’s intentional. It should face the rear of the trailer and be left open.
