Victron smart MPPT Bluetooth Range?

What kind of range can I expect on the MPPT blue tooth? I have both the victron smart Mppt 100/50 and the smart 712 battery monitor installed. The 712 has a great range and I can even pick it up inside my house. The 712 is mounted up high over the stove . The mppt is mounted under the dinette and seems week and have to be in the trailer or about 5'-7' away outside. I have it installed on a piece of alucobond. I wondering if the aluminum is affecting the single . what kind of range do you get?

I have the same solar controller and needed an excuse to go outside, so I just checked. I slowly approached my trailer until I got a Bluetooth signal from the app. My iPhone picked it up at about fifteen feet away from the controller.

Same setup, 712 up above, 100/50 MPPT under the bench installed directly to the wood. I also see a range difference but I can still see and control the MPPT from 20-25 feet, range improved with newer phones (Android)

I have a Victron SmartSolar, a BlueSolar with separate BT dongle and a SmartBatterySense 10M in a steel and aluminum nose box on the front of our 15A.

I get 5-10' or so from the SmartSolar (built in BT) and the SmartBatterySense with the box lid closed and double or triple that with the BlueSolar (separate BT dongle) which mirrors other friends who have/have had both Victron variants.

If you want/need maximum Bluetooth range I suggest going with the BlueSolar with the separate BT dongle.

I can get about 30' away with an iPhone 10 outside, and it covers my living room in the stick & bricks 20' from the trailer.

Our Victron 712 is in the upper passenger side cabinet and our Victron 100/20 and 100/30 controllers are under the u-shape rear dinette bench. I'm currently at least 75 feet away and can read all three. They also can be read going down the road with my phone on the dash.

Both Victron controllers are separated from the wood using nuts, not a sheet of metal. I have both an OP and a Pixel 3 Android phones that are reading all three from this spot.

Enjoy,

Perry

Ours is also added in the same under dinette sitting but I purchased a Victron dongle which is installed on the outside dinette sitting in area of remote for surge protector.I can sit inside house and read both battery monitor and the MPPT . Pat

It seems most are getting a little better range than me. I think when the snow melts I will try removing the aluminum panel it mounted on . I just like to be able to read it when towing.

More info-- I also have my MPPT controller mounted with standoffs and a sheet of metal. Last night when I tried to connect as I approached the rear corner of the trailer, the sheet metal shield was partially blocking the signal. Just now I tried again from the front of the trailer and had greater range: I could pick up the signal several feet in front of the trailer tongue, say 25+ feet overall.

I also have the Victron SmartShunt battery monitor, the one without the hardware display. Its range does not seem to be as great as that of the MPPT 100/50. I'm using an iPhone 6s.

Hi the only difference is mine is mounted under sitting on the wood frame . It may be the aluminum blocking your signal . Pat
Our sitting is made higher and cushions thicker. The Victron controller never gets hot or warm and has been installed now 3 plus years . Pat
