VIN location

Other than sticker driver side near front and sticker in wardrobe closet, where is the VIN visible on trailer?

I’m not aware of anywhere else besides the two locations you mention and I’ve been all throughout and under our trailer doing maintenance and mods. Best to ask Escape.

During orientation at ETI they advised us to take a photo of the ID sticker on the outside and save for reference as it will fade over time.

How strange that Escape doesn't do something more permanent with the VIN than a simple glued on sticker. My old Scamp cold stamped it into the tongue.

Given that anybody can buy a set of stamps and put any old number on the frame, I don't think it really matters. Take a picture of the sticker seems the most secure route.

Exactly. The thief applies a little heat to it, removes the sticker, then cold stamps his own VIN onto the tongue and nobody's the wiser.

How many times have you seen a post where somebody can't find the VIN and it's suggested that they buy stamps and just punch their own numbers? Where is the security in that?

Well, never, but I've done exactly that myself. On my Scamp there was so much paint I needed help from the Fiberglass Forum and a magnifying glass to find it.

Right. So what makes it valid? Nothing.

Validity is always in the eye of the beholder. Nothing isn't nothing if it is front and center. Especially true with lawyers, law enforcement, and especially with bureaucrats at the DMV. You know it and I know it.

The concern about a VIN (or just serial number on older trailers, from long before the Escape era) stamped into the frame doesn't seem to exist in Canada. This comes up often in forums such as FiberglassRV, and it's clear that Boler and Trillium didn't typically stamp the serial number in Canada, and it doesn't seem to have been a problem for anyone in Canada unless the sticker in the closet had been lost. Those old trailers didn't even have the foil label that is now normal - just the paper sheet pasted inside a cabinet.

So stamp it on the frame if you want, but I don't see any reason to worry about it unless your jurisdiction has inspection procedures that include an expectation that it will be there. Yes, taking photos of both the sheet and the foil sticker makes sense to me - I've done that for my RVs.

My experience has been that the most valid ownership protection you can have is having that title, with a VIN printed on it.

Thanks to all

We successfully got our daughter's new 21NE VIN verified for Texas registration.

Went to the Burnet County Sheriff's office to obtain the TX DMV Form 68A, Law Enforcement Identification Number Inspection (new form 06/2020). The Deputy accepted the street side exterior sticker, which matches the VIN on the Customs Entry form and the Certificate of Origin.

In Texas, you must have the 68A to register the imported trailer.

Unfortunately, my paperwork is not visible "on the trailer".

This question was for the purpose of VIN validation as part of getting a title and registration. All done.
