Water heater issue

Just got back from our 3 week camping after puckup of or 19. We were only able to light the propane heater once. Never ignited thereafter. Electric did heat. We tried several sequences as well as reset button, no go. Thought it might be elevation since we were often camping over 6000. Could smell gas but no ignition. Thoughts?ok

In both our fiberglass trailers I have found black flacky residue after some initial use. I concluded it was some oil ,left over from the manufacturing process , that had been on the steel inside the combustion chamber that burned off with use.I used some air pressure to blow it out and that seemed to help return the water heater to normal. May not be your problem but might be worth a try.

I would want to know if I could light it with a BBQ lighter. If it stays lit it might tell me that the orfice is not clogged and I would look toward the igniter.

Yep, we had the exact same problem. Once we cleaned that out, the water heater worked fine.

By the way blowing everything out with compressor didn't work. We pulled the igniter just to see if it was sparking and it was. Lit propane with lighter but wouldn't stay lit. I now have taken it in for service. We'll see what they find.

It ended up being a faulty circuit board. $185 for repair.
