Water pump not suctioning

Hi all! we are camping in Baja with our brand new Escape 19. All working well except today the water pump stopped suctioning. Coincidentally this happened just after we filled the FW tank which had emptied while using the external shower. The motor works but there is no flow. Doesn’t seem to be electrical issue, fuses are ok. Believe pump is self priming but anyway tried to prime it via the alternative suction for winterizing, without success. You can feel very faint vacuum pressure at suction, but obviously not enough. By passed water heater but no change. All seems to point to malfunction of some internal component in the mechanical side of the pump, however this would be surprising given that we have used the trailer for about a month. Will appreciate any troubleshooting ideas. Thanks! Diego

Try This:
Remove the cover from the filter (The clear plastic "thing" at the inlet to the pump), fill the bowl with water, put the cover back on, run the pump. You may need to do it a couple of times.

Hope Jon's suggestion does it for you.

We're Baja regulars, except for this year. We usually go down in Jan., Feb.

I follow Baja Nomad and things look pretty normal. We love Coyote Beach.

Where are you and anything new or different, aside from Covid protocols?

Ron

If it was working fine it’s probably just an air lock. Here is Reace showing what Jon describes in a video:

Hi guys, thanks a lot for your advice. I tried originally what Jon suggested (before reading his post) and did not work probably because I did it only once. What worked was filling the winterizing piece of flex pipe pointing the valve for suction from there, filled it up with water, held it up, and turned the pump; once it primed, changed the suction back to the tank. I still have the issue of the pump not shutting down when all faucets are closed. Happily the ETI video you pointed to explains the solution, great resource!
Thanks again
Diego

Hi Ron, we are in La Ventana, south of La Paz. Crossed the US Mex border a week ago at Mexicali, no problems at all, no Covid questions, just had to pay for the FMM (visitor permit) form. Road in good shape

Glad the pump's working again.

Also good to hear things are pretty normal and that Mex. 5 is OK. It was pretty disappointing that after waiting for years for it to be finished that after the first year it had major washouts.

Ah, La Ventana, probably the windsurfing capitol of Baja. Enjoy.
