Waxing a 5.0TA
I thought those with a 5.0TA might like to know this. I bought a 1 quart bottle of Meguiar's Flagship Premium Marine Wax. I used all but a tad waxing Ten Forward twice. Next time, I'm buy a 1/2 gallon. Hopefully the Cabana Boy can use it.... still taking resumes for that position.
Seriously, just wanted you to know how much you'd use and how many times.

Exactly what is that Cabana Boy polishing? Is there a job description?

Yeah, the roof. I can't reach most of it. Hanging onto the awning with one hand, telescoping brush with the other, knees knocking standing on the ladder. That's the passenger side. IF it gets reasonably clean and big chunks of grunge get scrapped off, I'm happy. No awning on the drivers side. I can't even see the roof standing on the ladder. Is it clean? The only way I know is to go into my house and look down from the 2nd story window. Some reasonable shade of white looks good to me. But you know what? It's my trailer and I kinda like the patina look.

I use the same wax, but a lot less (on my 19). I get 3-4 polish jobs from one quart bottle. I hand buff and get a good shine. Should I be using more polish? I know a heavy application can make handcuffing difficult. -Tom

More wax doesn't mean more shine, because wax doesn't shine. It's the surface that shines. A 16' body sounds glorious to me... the difference between a 19' trailer and 5.0TA is four more feet x two for both sides and the roof.

... plus a nose that is a really good bug catcher! One advantage of the 5.0 is that I can lower the landing gear almost all the way to "kneel" down the nose. Makes cleaning off the bugs easier. (Just cleaned my rig today.)

Is that because more wax lets the handcuffs slip off easier?

When do you start waxing your new trailer?
Have mine for about 5 weeks now. Should I put on a coat this Fall before Winter? What would best practices look like?

Fall for sure. I also hand wax the nose about every other trip as the bugs come off easier with a freshly waxed nose.

I got mine about the same time of year as you did, I waxed it late summer as we were on the road all fall. Some never wax them and are perfectly happy.

Depends how long they own the unit. Go to any marina. You'll see some boats where time went by and the owners never bothered waxing. Fiberglass leaves the factory with the best wax job it'll ever have. It looks good for a long time, except if it's in the tropics. But at some point it starts getting stains that just don't wipe off. So a little cleaner is used, maybe with a slight abrasive. The downhill spiral has now started. In this situation gel coat is porous and it'll keep getting worse stains and then oxidation. At that point you've got more than a simple wax job to do.
End of rant.
Ron

The roof of mine needs more then just wax every year. The upper half of the shell maybe every 2 years. I do the lower half the same time as the upper half but doesn't really need it then. I'm kind of anal about it so the roof actually gets compounded.

i just booked a appointment to get my trailer washed and waxed -expensive but seems worth it to me. i just don't want to give up a whole weekend to get it done. Working in health care during all this is very difficult i seem to need my fun weekends. i miss traveling but i am heading for the beach in two weeks with the horses and dogs.

Ouch. Thanks Kate. Actually as long as you're happy when the job is done, it's not so bad. You work hard and deserve to relax when you can. Thanks for letting me know!

Does anyone have a good ladder or set up that would allow waxing of the roof to be easier? I saw these and was thinking of a U shaped set up.
