What Did This?
We drove from Odessa to El Paso Texas today. When I stopped I noticed these gashes in my wheel as well as some abrasions. The tire seems fine. Any ideas? Only one wheel was affected.

Looks like a piece of lucky road debris.....lucky because it hit the rim and not the tire which might have punctured and blown out.

No telling what has happened, so many to choose from.
I see you’re from the Midwest, road salt can do odd things to an aluminum rim.
I went with the white rims so I could just touch them up now and then.

Ya got whacked
As I look at your photos, there appears to be blackened areas and gouges in the rim along with numerous scratches. My speculation is something impacted the rim. What? Your guess is better than mine. Do you recall any road debris on your drive?

Damage to wheel
You definitely had something hit or impact your aluminum wheel. The gouging is very evident. What I was looking at when I expanded the photo was the crappy machining of your aluminum wheel. I worked with over five manufacturers of aluminum wheels primarily using diamond tools for the final cut. I don't know what they were using but the surface finish looks like expletive deleted. It really doesn't affect the wheel but for somebody used to get beat up for not being able to come up with a beautiful finish on the exterior of wheels. Boy did I waste a lot of time in those accounts coming up with beautiful finishes.

Looks like you scuffed a curb somewhere along your travels. It happens.

It looks like a bad casting . you may want to replace it. or have the tire removed and check the inside.

I bought the white rims so I can just go to the trailer supply and pickup new tires as needed. We always have trailer tires come on sale with white wheels. The other side of the coin, I store my trailer and don’t want anything that may be attractive to theives.
