Which Anode Rod for Escape 19 water heater tank

Hello, Escapees --

We were trying to order another anode rod online and saw there were a variety of sizes and types. Does anyone know what size we should get for our hot water tank?

Thanks,
kalyson

Hi: kalyson... I took ours out for the winter and while it was out took it to my local RVTech for a replacement. I usually clean it off each fall, with a nylon scrubbie pad. The original lasted 5 yrs before I thought it might break apart and need to be plucked out thru the threaded hole. Can't remember how cheap a new one really was!!! Alf

Re: Which Anode Rod for Escape 19 water heater tank

Hi Alf,
Thanks for the reply. Our is less than a year old and it is almost half eaten away. Plus the part that twists into the hole there no longer turns right. The rv repair guy said we need a new one as a result.

I guess we can email Reace to find out the specs for the part.

Thanks,
Kalyson

All you need is the model of your water heater. I think they are Surburban brand but do not have the model. If you have access to your trailer, open the water heater access door, the model should be displayed. Any RV dealer will carry the one you want, but it never hurts to call ahead, especially if distances are involved. You could also take in your old one, assuming there is enough left.

Remember if you replace the anode be sure to use Teflon tape on the threads before re-inserting. If not, you may never get it out again.

I got about 12 weeks of camping out of mine before replacement. It was pretty eaten through. I might recommend keeping a spare, under 20 dollars and then you are ready to replace.

Those of us who live where soft water is natural will get many years out of an anode. Mine is four years old and in good shape.

It's the hard water folks who have to replace frequently.

For sure, the water here is not that soft, and after this our fourth year with the 19, I will be replacing the anode as it is was fairly worn when I drained the heater last fall.

Good advice -- we definitely would not have thought of that!
