Winter Battery Storage

Should the batteries be taken out of our trailers and stored inside for the winter? I have been told they should be stored inside with a trickle charger. I have dual batteries and a solar panel.

Thanks in advance for your help

Several schools of thought on the subject here.

Remove them to the cellar or garage, check the fluid, charge periodically.

Leave in the trailer, check fluid, fully charge, turn off the 12v switch or disconnect the leads. Periodically charge.

Batteries are fine outside for the winter as long as they are fully charged and the fluid stays where it should be.

I used to pull them till I read they were fine to about -60 on the Interstate website.

Read a couple of RV battery websites....used to be battery cases were of different materials than those today. So storing them on concrete would be a problem due to moisture, etc. Not so with today's plastic cases.

I'm fortunate to have space in my driveway to store my trailer. So I just keep it plugged into a 20A circuit with a heavy gage 20A rated extension cord. Let the trailer electronics keep it charged.

But then again the climate is pretty mild here regarding temperature. It rarely gets below 30 degrees F.
