- We started out with a 97 Ford Ranger and 2005 Trillium Outback built here in Calgary. We upgraded the truck to a new Ranger in 2011, and making the mistake of stopping to look at the Escape 5.0 in Chilliwack on our next trip to the coast, we soon had to upgraded the trailer too.
The Escape 5.0 is perfect for us, but dragging up mountains on BC forestry roads was a little much for our 2-wheel drive, standard Ranger. The smell of burning clutch doesn't do anything for campsite ambiance.
So, in the fall of 2013, we upgraded the truck again, this time to a 4-wheel drive, automatic, Nissan Frontier. The Frontier has reduced our reliance on momentum, making towing the 5.0 a breeze, even up the most demanding mountain (off)roads.
