I would get the AC. We've camped in the Thomson/Okanogan during the summer and glad we had it. Same for heading down south, it's nice to use it when needed.

Yamaha makes great generators. We have the 2400 watt for running our AC. Not as heavy as the 3000 watt Honda. When we use the generator I turn off the surge protector. Works just fine.

The Yamaha 2400 is the unit you want. I've used it with our air conditioning with great results. Some people on the web argue that the Yamaha generators are a better design than the Honda units....
