There is no wrong answer, just an opinion based on much reading and some personal miles towing in your neighbourhood. For me, I like having some reserve on tap, others place higher priority on gas...

I live and tow in the NW of the continent and love the V8.

If you had stated you were going to stay on the relatively flat land of the I5 corridor, then I'd suggest the V6.
