I did this too....just chop the pipe off right next to the fitting with a sawzall or hack saw and glue the new one on....easy peasy and you only lose maybe 2 in on the pipe.

I did the same thing which allows me to use my grill for a picnic away from the camper.

I don't have a short bed...mine is 6.5 ft but it works great with my 2018 Tundra Dbl cab 4 x4 no trouble here with payload. I also have the Andersen hitch and put in a Curt(I think) custom fit rail kit to mount it and that has worked very well.

Two thoughts: Get a Tundra...great truck and similar mileage to a hard working Taco towing. Yes it is bigger....I have had both. In Mexico get a diesel HI LUX it is the size of a Taco but way better!
