2017 Escape build sequence numbers

OK so our 17, due for completion on 30 January ends in 044, so it is in your sequence although I have to agree with this one:

But hey, its (at least currently) a free world and Iowa Dave has it right!!

From Tammy's post under trailers for sale:

"2017, 19’ Escape (VIN#046) Price $36,775cdn**
This trailer will be completed on January 20, 2017."

That would fill in your blank row: 037-048 = 19s

:)

So it appears there is a discrepancy. Both a 19 and a 17 within the sequence 037-048.

So, I’m sitting around twiddling my thumbs while anxiously awaiting the completion of our 2017 21' (many of you have already experienced “the wait”, others will get their chance soon enough). Got to wondering what sequential production number ours will be and if the last digits of our VIN (“53") mean anything. Asked ETI and got a very interesting (to me) answer. As I understand it, within model year (in this example, “2017"), they assign batches of 12 VINs at a time to each model length (17, 19, 21, 5.0) as needed as production of that length trailer moves through their manufacturing process. So to cut to the chase, I’m putting this out there for current 2017 owners to figure out what batch of 12 VINs got assigned to each model length of 2017s so far. See if this makes sense:
2017 VINs ending 01-12 = ? (what length trailer, all 12 should be the same length model)
2017 VINs ending 13-24 = ? “
2017 VINs ending 25-36 = ? “
2017 VINs ending 37-48 = ? “
2017 VINs ending 49-60 = 21's (our #53 is the 5th camper within this batch of 12)

So, if 49-60 is the second batch of VINs assigned to 21' production, our 21' is the 17th (12+5) 2017 21' built. However, if 49-60 is the first batch of VIN’s assigned to the 21' production line, then our 21' is just the 5th 2017 21' built. Does that make sense? Regardless, ETI said that our 21' will be forever identified in their records as “2017 53". For whatever reason, I find that interesting to know.

So if any of you would like to help me sort out what length 2017 trailers got which batch of 12 VINs, please reply to this post with your 2017 camper’s length and the last two digits of your VIN, or private message me with that information if you want to keep your individual VIN a bit more secret, and I’ll try to sort this all out. And, once some numbers start rolling in, if it turns out I’m all confused about what ETI tried to explain to me about how they assign VINs, I’ll let you know that, too. Thanks...
no wonder there may be VIN issues when registering!....just kidding
head was spinning reading that stuff....

As I said when I opened this thread, I just "got to wondering". No big deal. Not going to rock the foundation of the fiberglass RV building industry. But thanks to those who also expressed a little curiosity regarding the topic and responded with their trailer numbers. However, I now face a conundrum! Within the 37-48 range, at appears that #044 is a 17' and #46 is a 19'. I'd love to know what model campers the rest of the numbers in that series are on (especially 043?, 045?, 047?). Back to the drawing board. Fred, I think I need one of those Blue Moons weighting down your fridge door!

My guess ... and only a guess is that if ETI only had 5 orders for a certain model instead of 12 when they needed to set the building schedule, they would assign the 'free' 7 spaces to another model. This would up set your linear build calendar but perhaps not the Vin numbering.

ETI doesn't build on spec so I'm sure they are filling their calendar to keep busy.

Let's really confuse things.
It's my understanding that the VIN sequence is within model year, so your 2009 model year ordered in calendar year 2008 (?) would be in a whole different prior number sequence not at all related to the 2017 model year VIN number sequence. That's why my trailer is known to ETI as "2017 53". I'm not sure how much any of this relates to VIN numbers prior to ETI's run-in with the US Import office this past August. I think maybe Laura (NWCatLady) started with a 2016 model and was assigned 2016 VIN, but then she opted for the new 2017 style, and her 2016 VIN followed her into her 2017 model - or something like that. Laura, did something like that happen?

Good memory! Or else you figured it out from when we ordered. ;D Either way, correct. We switched when they officially came out with the new body style. However, my understanding is they didn't assign a VIN until it went into production. It didn't show up on our paperwork until around about that time. So, by that thinking, it may not have mattered what body style we got. See if you can find out the VINs for 1st Gen styles on 21' trailers that were produced around the time ours was.

Have fun figuring it all out! I'll let you deal with it while I recover from a nasty cough and sore throat. Just in time to expose myself to wet, rainy weather on Saturday in Seattle for hours on end, walking in it. Least it won't be snow! :thumb:

Our completion date is Feb 7 and it's a 19' ending in 044. We just got the first few pics of it in production. Can you say excited?

Thanks, Nelson. Chris & Patricia replied earlier that they had a 2017 year model 17' with VIN ending in 044, but that didn't fit my pattern. BUT, your 19' does fits the pattern. I need to have Chris & Patricia check there's again and make sure theirs is a 2017 model, because there aren't supposed to be two 2017's with the same last three digits. Thanks again. Dale

Chris & Patricia, Can you check the last three digits of your Escape's VIN again for me? I received a response from NCopp that he has a 2017 19' on order with a VIN that ends in "044", and there isn't supposed to be two 2017 models whose VIN's end with the same last three digits. NCopp's 19' fits the pattern I'm working on. Your 17' doesn't. So I'm just curious what's going on. Also, your 17' is a 2017 model, right? Thanks. Dale

See attached, should answer your questions. Maybe Nelson misread his VIN#?

Thanks, Chris & Patricia. Nelson, back to you. Are you sure your Escape 19' is a 2017 model year with 044 as the final 3 VIN digits? Sorry to be so anal about this. For you biologists out there, I think my genotype is homozygous dominant for curiosity.

Hi Dale,

If you look at their photo, it says [ Model 2017, 17' ] in red text above the other information. I missed it at first too. Perhaps because I would expect that information to be with the rest.

Correct. Pretty clear cut from their paperwork. That's why I followed up and asked Nelson to verify his model year and VIN. I also have another number that is doubled up, now. So just when I think things are falling in line, they fall apart. Hmmmm, what would Fred do?
