To extend only the bottom would be problematic: the shape has to come out of the mould, and the upper and lower parts need to mate. I suppose the top shell could form the frame of the top of the box.

If the bottom half had a box molded into it, and a separate lid piece, the two halves could still mate as long as the center seam is not affected, no?

I doubt seriously from a business standpoint they'd want to give up the large margin on that ETI molded add on box currently a $700 option and force those costs into the trailer base price. I'd think it's more likely they might enhance the separate box option, so that it is more robust and has cleaner lines to the trailers.

I completely agree with this take. Not every option purchased by buyers could be adapted to be a standard feature. This would press the standard purchase price up to a very high level. It is much better from a manufactures point of view to have a customer clearly see the effect these options have on the final price.

You just can't get that bottom shell out of the mould, because the box extension can't come up. Any protrusion from the sides (including the front side) has this problem.

This is the same reason that the entire loft of the 5.0/5.0TA is not moulded as part of the top shell "half", even though it is entirely above the "waistline" of the main part of the trailer.

I agree that if anything is changed about the box, it would likely be limited to the box itself. Assuming that the overall shape of the trailers is not changing (it seems extremely likely to me that mould changes are for small but important features, not the overall shape) any change to the box does change the trailer moulds and so does not need to be done at the same time.

Love your photos from Utah Barry. The cloud formations are very interesting to see. Our plan is to maybe get there this fall. Hopefully take in some mountain bike riding as well as the incredible sights.

Thanks, actually that sunset is a sunrise Too busy for my liking during the day so I hiked up at 5am in the dark with a head lamp and had the place to myself for nearly an hour as the sun rose over the horizon. The air is much cleaner at the beginning of the day which is better for photography given the dusty environment and I'm outta there as the first tour buses arrive. Many of the images at Delicate Arch are pre-dawn images which gives that surreal sky and the 10mm wide angle accentuates that too.

I don't particularly care for the Bigfoot tongue box. But one point in it's favor over most is it "hinges" in the middle rather than the back. In fact it has two access points, one on each side.

They are a lot more form fitting, and the new ones actually have good storage. Some of the previous versions had very little storage, and was awkward to access. The early ones were mostly intended to be a fitted propane and battery cover.

Our front box is the our favorite option . Really like it also protects front of trailer . Really think it is pretty strong and looks pretty good to us . Like the batteries are also in there , easy to take care of . Always thought Big Foots were kind of strange looking , even the newest ones . Just our thoughts . Pat
