2024, Oct. 3-6 Fall NOG - Northern Oregon Gathering

Edit 9-01-24

Once again the NOG is returning to South Beach State Park on the Central Oregon coast. The last time was Fall NOG 2021.

We're within the six month reservation window depending on the first day you plan to be in the park.

We'll start reserving in D Loop and move UP the alphabet as needed (C then B then A). E, F, G and H will be closed by the park system for camping. I've reserved site D19. IF you want a Yurt, there's some nice ones on the east side of C Loop (some are pet friendly). There's also a kid's play structure in C loop. IF you have a child and don't want to go to the beach to play in the sand, there's a big sand pit behind site D37, in that site. How cool is that? This is definitely a bike-friendly park. You can ride from the park, through the day use area and then all the way to the South Jetty in Newport, along the beach and all on asphalt.

Be sure to checkout everything the Oregon State Park system has to say about the park. Find the information here including reservation information: https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=149

The brochure here will tell you site driveway length (South Beach park information, general map with trails and campground map with site numbers): https://stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=main.loadFile&load=_siteFiles%2Fpublications%2F%2Fsouth-beach-map-2022web.015230.pdf

AND, check out Campsite photos for a picture of the site you want: https://www.campsitephotos.com/camp...state-park/photos/south-beach-state-park-d001

I was only able to rent the Meet Hall for Saturday Night. So... the Saturday night pot luck is a GO. There's plenty of parking, the restrooms are right next door. Additionally, there are lights, a few electric plugs, and running water. There are picnic tables outside the shelter also. BUT, the Friday Night Dinner on a Stick and Beer Exchange are WEATHER dependent. I will post WHERE those activities will happen... IF they happen on the door of my trailer by NOON on Oct. 4. BRING SUN!

I'll keep list of names and a map for those that have made reservations at the CasitaForum here: https://www.casitaforum.com/invboar...4-oct-3-6-fall-nog-northern-oregon-gathering/

Be sure to let us know if you're newbies to egg gatherings and everyone start planning/making your name tags.

I NEED this info for the participants list, please:
First names of adults attending
City, State where you live
Year/Make/Model/Length of your trailer
SITE number that you reserved.

Woohoo... Fun times ahead!

IF you're coming to Fall NOG, could you please check this list of participants (with site numbers) and make certain your name is on the list? It seems a bit thin for this NOG. IF you don't see your name, please post the info so I can get you added. Thanks!

Donna,

I do not know how I managed to miss the announcement and followup replies concerning this gathering. [Well, to be fair, as of 9 weeks ago we became grandparents, so we've been a wee bit distracted.] I just checked to see if there are any open sites, but there are none. :( I'll check nearby RV parks to see if I can find a berth.

If nothing is available nearby, I may just cruise over for a day to say howdy. We live just an hour away.

I'd suggest checking Beverly Beach, we have one participant staying there.

Be sure to put an alert at the South Beach State Park, Reserve America site, so you'll be notified when someone cancels. Not just us, but everyone. But do know, that everyone that's put in a request for an alert for that time will ALL receive the message at the same time. Speedy response counts! Good luck :thumb:

That's strange I was trying to post to this thread, and it posted to the Bay area gathering.
And it looks like everything is full.

Year around, weekends at the beach at the Oregon State Parks, fill up pretty fast. IF you can come at nearly the last minute, you can put an alert on ReserveAmerica at the South Beach State Park reservation page. That would send you an email if any site within the park is cancelled. Just know, everyone that has an alert receives the same message and you need to move quickly to snare the site. Good luck :thumb:

PLEASE READ IN ITS ENTIRETY. We're now two weeks out from Fall NOG.

I will post the weather forecast for Oct. 3-6 just before the gathering. Look at the BOTTOM of THIS POST. Plan for any kind of weather. Over the years we've seen it all!

THE Schedule of Events such as it is...

Daytime hours are completely unscheduled. Feel free to do what you wish. Sleep in, fly a kite on the beach, go to town, play cards, sit-and-visit, etc., etc. As far as trailer tours, nothing scheduled for that either. If you see folks sitting outside, stop and chat and ask to see their trailer. I've found most have an informal open house. Saturday, be sure to check out the Saturday Market, hours 9-1: https://www.newportfarmersmarket.org/

DON'T FORGET TO BRING/WEAR A NAME TAG. I'm meeting some of you for the first time. Help me to remember your name, please.

I was only able to rent the Meet Hall for Saturday Night. The Friday Night Dinner on a Stick and Beer Exchange are WEATHER dependent. I will post WHERE those activities will happen... IF they happen on the door of my trailer (site D19) by NOON on Friday, Oct. 4. BRING SUN!

FRIDAY NIGHT NO-HOST DINNER-ON-A-STICK: Bring your hot dog/buns... everything including the condiments on the bun. This is not a potluck, bring everything you need, including your roasting stick. This is just a chance to have dinner with everyone else. Some like sausage dogs; others the highbrow fancy dogs. Or, eat at your trailer and bring your lawn chair and join in the conversation. Smore's and roasting Peeps encouraged too. You will want to bring a chair. NOG fire will be roaring, come by anytime after 5PM.

The fun/funny stuff:
CRAFT BEER EXCHANGE
6PM SHARP
FRIDAY NIGHT
This is an "opener" event.
Bring a six pack of craft beer, trade one bottle or can for a different kind.

SATURDAY NIGHT POTLUCK: Serving of food will start SHARPLY at 5pm. (Sun will go down at 6:48pm, that's why the early start.) Come a few minutes early to get your food on the table before serving starts. Bring an appetizer, entrée, salad or dessert to share that feeds 6-10 people and your table service. NOTE: If you're bringing something 'soupy' that needs to be eaten from a bowl, you might consider providing disposable bowls. Most people won't put soupy food on a plate and most don't bring a bowl in anticipation of needing it.

Everyone is welcome at anytime to anything. If you're not a beer drinker that's perfectly okay. Please join us. Beer/food is secondary to the good times we'll have.

Always plan to bring a chair to events.

Please, no pets at any of the NOG food events.

Hope this helps with some questions. Post if not, we'll get the question answered.

I need to confer with Melody, but I may want to take your spot. [I'm interested, but there may be a scheduling conflict on Saturday.]

Michael & Melody will be there beginning Thursday. Many thanks to Harriet & John!

We will be in site # C-13 in our 21C.

See you all in a few days!:)

I've been here in the park since Sept 23. The weather has been terrific. Looks like a bit of downturn tomorrow. But the weather report says it should be over by 5pm. Just in time for the Dinner on a Stick! Look at the info on the door of my trailer (site D19) for where that will be happening.
