21' Escape - MY impression

Indeed, thanks for the pictures.

My opinion, for what it's worth given that I haven't actually seen the 21:

The extra width, and the extra openness from moving the bathroom to the corner, are a big plus for me. I actually tried to convince my wife to go 17A rather than 19 for a while because I wanted to get rid of the center bathroom. Like keager, I feel the center bath breaks the trailer into separate smaller spaces.

But, the narrower bed is a show-stopper for us. We're used to a king sized at home, and while we're willing to settle for a queen sized, we don't want to go smaller.

Interesting info on the high bed sides in the new trucks. I know I hated the new style. I'm slightly taller than average and even I have a hard time reaching in to them to grab something. My wife has a hard time even seeing into them!

The added width is what lends to the openness, as much as the bath moved, to me. The bath in the 19 is only 3" wider than the cabinetry for the fridge, which in itself will create that block in the middle of the trailer. Of course, the bath does add lots of width to this block.

Though easier to access the bed in the 21, having it kinda pigeonholed away like in the 19 or 5.0 is more appealing to me, I like the separation from the rest of the trailer. For me, the size of the bed in the 21 is just fine, as my half is only 18" wide, no matter the size of the bed. :)

This is why it is so nice to have the different model options that Escape now offers. All their trailers have their pluses, and there is now another great option to suit even more people.

I liked the 21 too, Very nicely done.

I agree with the impression that the bed is a bit narrow.

One good thing about it was that 3- 19's came up on the used market from people that ordered at the rally, and we got one of them. ;D

As it turns out, where we (used to) park the Casita on the side of the house, the Escape 19 just fits. Anything larger would have to go in off site storage.

I still think the bed in view from the doorway looking in. Is a turn off.
Either you make the bed as soon as you get up or keep the door closed. Thats my point of view.

8) well now...

My biggest turnoff of the 21 too. In fact, probably the only one. I prefer the bed to be a retreat out of the way. This is why the 5.0 also appeals to me. I am always up WAY before my wife, and in the 19 she can stay hidden away while I go about things in the morning, which usually see me in and out a few times. She tucks her head behind the fridge wall, and even a light on does not bother her.

Though, compromises are always the issue in these smaller trailers. And everyone has their own list of preferences, and not all can always be met.

That's funny Jim - that's exactly why we liked the 21 better than the 19. We feel the bed is tucked away separately from the rest of the trailer - but still has the big window to contemplate the morning. Nice to have all those choices from Escape! I was sure I would not like the bed in the front - Donna D stopped by at Bandon and said don't even go look - you'll be sorry (trying to protect Dave's wallet I think). Deb G and I walked over and to our surprise the front bed was not an issue - it just feels natural to turn into the trailer and the rest is history...6 days until pickup!

Before ordering our 21 I thought of this too, but really, all anyone looking into the trailer's open door could see would be a lump under the blankets at the foot of the bed. I doubt my wife could care less if anyone saw a lump at the end of the bed. She might prefer to not be seen from the waist up (bedhead anyone?) but that view is obscured by the bathroom. Ultimately I decided it was a non-issue and liked the rest of the design, especially the extra room and storage for 2 adults and 2 kids.

That is so true Kathie, that it is nice to have choices. I do have to admit, after touring the 21 in Osoyoos, I liked it WAY more than I thought I would.

Bottom line is that I think we could make anything work for us, and still have a great time. No doubt if I had a 21 I would love it for all the great features it has.

I heard you are so excited that you have weighed all your clothes, food, all the stuff that goes in the trailer.

Here's a picture of the two mods I had Reace build for me. I'm happy with them both; used a fold up tv table when I wanted one. I also planned to have Escape's folding tables installed at the foot of the bed, and on both sides of the dinette, but came home with them uninstalled as I'm not sure if I need them.

Option I didn't know I really needed and am grateful for: the removable power cord. When one is breaking camp early in the dark and the rain is pouring down, it is priceless not to have to stand outside in the wet threading the cord back into its receptacle!

The Anderson hitch is very easy to hook up, to my pleasure. The 21 tows very well,, in headwinds and pouring rain it was barely noticeable behind the Highlander. Going over the Siskyous the slowest we went was 40mph, and that only for a short time. Granted it is only 4000+ feet, not the Rockies, it is a long straight uphill pull.

Sally,
Did you have Escape put your hatch on the side of the bed vs the foot? I see a handle in the edge of the last picture?

I've got a hatch in both places. Couldn't decide so took both and I'm glad. Makes that storage space more accessible. I have so much storage now maybe I should open a junk shop?

I could use help deciding where to put the paper towel holder. Also the bath towel holder and the toothbrush one. If I put a ring towel holder under the mirror on the bath door, will it be sturdy?
