Sorry for leaving things hanging on this topic for so long...

First of all, thank you all for your input!

There have been some delays in getting this project started, however the work has begun! This one is going to take some time to get all the details worked out as there are many new parts needed and many changes involved.

The 21' Escape 'Front Bed' model will be available for viewing by summer 2013 and production dates will begin in the fall.

We will continue to update as the project progresses.

That looks like a very good layout Reace, I am sure there will be lots of folks who like it. Any Idea on what the weight will be?
 
Maybe you will have a prototype to bring to the Rally next June, I'm going to try and make it and would like to see one.
 
I hope the design does well for you, but it's not for me... Gotta have a queen-sized bed; I'll stick to the 19, even if the bed is at the back.
 
Looks awesome! My wife wants this asap. However, she also mentioned that if there is a 21ft 5th wheel she would really want it as well.

Will this model also have a front storage box? I did have one thought, can the frame have something on the back where a Honda Generator can be stored?

Design looks great and I can't wait to see the development. Looks Like I may have to ask Jim to help me get my Casita ready to sell next summer....

Don,
Most Escapes have the option of a bike rack receiver on rear, this should handle a generator also. Go with solar and you won't need one!!

My only concern is the air conditioner and the dog. We have lost power at the campground many times, I know we can run the battery and use solar but having that little honda backup (now that we have it) is nice. It was a thought but not a deal breaker, because we still would like to carry bikes on the back.....but generator and bikes might be too much weight on the back end. Like I said, a thought because I know some campers have the generators all built in and that would be nice.

Hope to come see you and your 19 over the winter. We have been swamped, but now our focus for the next year is to update our casita, sell it near the end of the season, and look forward to an escape!

Four inches wider? It could be Bigfoot size that would be interesting.
 
The one thing about getting too much larger in size, is that though there are many advantages to the moulded fiberglass trailer, the main reason that most folks buy for is the light weight and ease of towing with a smaller vehicle. Once you start getting into larger fiberglass trailers, you begin to have to move away from this category, and will be marketing to a smaller segment of RV' purchasers. Bigfoots are great trailers, but anything 19' or larger requires a V8 engine to tow. For many, that would mean a new tow vehicle that would not fit their lifestyle beyond RV'ing.

I agree with your thought. (See 21' Escape-Coming Soon #25) However the concensus is... build it Rease and we'll buy it. Time will tell if this was a sucessful new venture. Hope so.
 
Hi: All... I think Reace's take on the 21'er is not from a traditional fiberglass trailer buyer, but to tap into a downsizing market. Campers/travelers are looking for units to move down into, from their larger longer trailers. These folks find themselves in the "Goldilocks" syndrome, and may feel better in a twenty something footer than a teen something trailer.
Either way it's a gamble and I for one hope it's a jackpot!!! Alf

As Alf says, I seem to recall that Escape wants to compete for the people who have big stickies and are downsizing. They already have the tow.

Of course, there are those with small FGs who will want to go bigger and some of them also already have a suitable TV.

As far as the layout, if many simply want a bed in the front, the 19' could have the bed and dinette reversed. I assume that there is not a wheel well problem.

Many want the width of a Bigfoot but the towing does not have the same ease.

As you say, they are really into another category now. I expect that they can be successful because they make so few units. They can probably find enough buyers for whatever they make, even present Escape owners. So I doubt it is any gamble for them. If they should not sell as big a number as expected, they can simply keep on selling the smaller ones.

I don't think you can get a queen-sized bed into the front of a 19'. The door position won't allow it. However, you can get the queen-sized bed converted into the U-shaped dinette, and use the normal dinette as a smaller bed. But, if you don't require a queen-sized bed, you might as well go for the 17A.
