3" Frame Recall on 15', 17' & 19' Escape Trailers

Utah beer is 4% by volume (3.2% by weight), with some very tasty offerings, and after having a few there I never once was lead to feel sinful. Polygamy Porter was one of my favourites.

Not a bad beer. There is no hard and fast maximum abv however - except for the beers commonly sold in stores (NOT the official Utah State Liquor Stores). I grew up in Utah and the only beer available was max of 3.2 abw, but since then there has been a bit of a beer explosion, with lots of microbreweries popping up everywhere - and they're not limited to 3.2 - although the Utah alcoholic beverage laws are sometimes impossible to navigate.

Having said that, I prefer the local brews in Colorado. Had a lovely Levity Amber Ale (or three) from Odell Brewing Co. while I was in Denver this week.

(I know - off topic)

I feel 60.00 Canadian is a little low. In my case, with my 19, I need to re and re the battery and case and also the junction box in order to drill the holes. Prepping, welding, drilling, re and re and painting will be well over an hour.

Utah has some strange alcohol rules, like joining/paying a fee to join and the bartender having to circle them self for double drinks, at least they used to....

Or, if you happen to be anywhere near North Vancouver, I know a guy with a welder. ;D

Very funny. Actually you're going to have to learn a new language soon. Key words are "I'm retired" :) I get people offering me money for different things. I tell them "you couldn't afford me" If they're friends or friends of friends I usually give them some help for free. Works for me. I have a friend whose now 72 and has been "retired" for 7 years but can't say no to old customers so he's still working as much as ever. :nonono:

Didn't see the requirement for the second bracket on the 19. I'm not sure very many places would weld on 4 attachments for the amount offered.

Hubby took our 17B out to Escape in Chilliwack today and had the frame weld and solar panel warranty work taken care of. Easy for us since we're only an hour and a half away. He's heading out next week for a month or so of lake fishing so the timing couldn't have been better. Got everything looked after as well as a good test run with the trailer before his trip. Tammy also mentioned that Escape would be going to winter hours next week and would be closed on weekends.

We just spent a week in Utah and your correct Utah has some unusual laws concerning alcohol . According to Utah's website ,Utah is an alcohol control state and it is illegal to transport or import alcohol into Utah even for personal use. Luckily the Utah authorities did not catch me with our 12 pak of Leine's beer or I probably would be posting this from prison.

I saw Ted coming home on my way to work this afternoon--thought I recognized him and then I saw the "fireman" on the back...

Ours is going to be dropped off on Saturday morning--getting a few things checked out and a new opening window in the bathroom... Nice we live so close--we are dropping it off and will pick it up whenever..
It is already winterized

Ted's heading back to Escape on Saturday morning (without the trailer) to pick something else up. Maybe he'll see you there?

Probably---I have to Work Sat afternoon so I think Doug wants to be there shortly after 10....

3" Frame Recall on 15', 17' & 19' Escape Trailers

A few thoughts on this recall. Though it doesn't affect us, I can sense the frustration of many who have to have this fix done, especially those far from ETI. I had a similar experience with our Tundra truck, where a recall to remedy frame corrosion took a bit of time and effort on my part. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Toyota and were I in the market for a trailer I wouldn't hesitate to buy an Escape again. Reece and Tammy really do look after their customers and I speak from personal experience.

I agree Bob. It doesn't affect us either, but it's a bit of a pain for those who are affected.

My only concern would be the $50 compensation. You'd be hard pressed to get any welding shop in my area to do even a simple repair like this for under $100 - and it would probably be more.

The fact that this situation has been noted, action taken with a remedy, and an offer to do the repair, or at least compensate most of the costs, should been seen as a positive thing.

In the big picture, it is a minor inconvenience with possibly a very small cost attached, in order to have the piece of mind that a potentially terrible situation has been averted. Folks should be very happy with this.

Hi: Jim Bennett... Though not affected with a 5.0TA I couldn't agree more. I have been affected by Ford only issuing a TSB rather than a recall on our Focus Transmission.
Reace chose to do the right thing!!! Kudos to ETI!!! Alf
escape artist N.S. of Lake Erie;)

Having come from a welding background if the customer were to pull up with the trailer and hand me the package of plates to be welded on. I would fit, mark the edges for a quick past with the grinder for a clean surface, slide a piece of tin above the welding area, tack and weld, remove the slag then with a can of black spray paint which welding shops all have give it a quick spray.

Now even if I would have been required to trim a little spray foam this whole operation could be done in 30 minutes. That said I do understand why some shops charge a 1 hour minimum.

Now the rant portion of my post. What I don't understand is the problem people have with the $60.00 allowance. If the bill comes to $70.00, $80.00 or more you pay it and move on. Your trailer is fixed, nothing bad has happened to you and you can head off camping again.

Cheers
Doug

In our case, we're a 2-day drive from ETI and I'd rather not take a chance and drive it there. As someone pointed out, the frame would likely be fine but if there were any issues on the way related to the frame and we knew about it, our insurance would probably be void. That leaves us with only one option, getting it repaired here. I've checked with the more reputable welding shops here and the $50 won't begin to cover the cost. One of the shops actually refused to do the work for fear of damaging the trailer in the process.

So, we're in a bit of a quandary. I know we have to get the work done. We're just not sure how that's gonna happen. Plus, our 19 is in winter storage so nothing will get done until next spring anyway, hopefully in time for the rally.

Doug

I do feel sorry for people who have to inspect it and may find cracks. I spoke with a person selling an older Escape who's ad said 'cracked frame repaired' and he said the fiberglass body had to be lifted off the frame to properly weld and strengthen the joint. It was distorted and cracked so it was too late to just add a stiffener.

To me, the repair (like the solar panel kit) looks more like a Band-Aid then a 'fix'. Time will tell.

Thankful to have a 4" frame and I appreciate ETI made that change. We love our 19'!

I don't disagree with you Jim, and I'm relieved that we have a 4" frame so we're not affected anyway. Perhaps it's the use of the word 'recall'. That usually connotes that the repair is done at no cost to the consumer. Of course, in a company that uses dealers, like your car, they don't have to worry about overcharging because the repair in recall is done at a dealer with like parts and identical costs involved. And of course, Escape has to set a limit somewhere, since some shops charge way more than others.

You don't have to convince me that Escape's customer service is stellar, and even if I were affected, this would not alter my opinion that Reace and his crew are outstanding.

As someone who has been waiting for over two months for replacement airbags to arrive for TWO cars involved in this airbag fiasco, we truly appreciate a company that takes a proactive role in resolving issues. Maybe ETI's solution isn't perfect, but at least they have one readily available.
