BUT Jan, you made a memory!

A memory I don't care to repeat. (Although, it really was quite funny ... )

For those that weren't there, let's just say that storing your food underneath the bed in a 19' and leaving the hatch open is an open invitation to any raccoon family within the vicinity.

We live in a rural area as well and have neighbors with horses which means a lot of grain, hay AND rats/mice (yep, BIG rats). Our Border Collie does her best to keep them at bay; however, it was a losing battle until we got Rat Zappers (Rat Zapper® Ultra Rat Trap | Victor®). The instructions say they're for 'inside only'; however, we purchased plastic bins, cut holes in one end and placed the Zapper inside. We place them near our vehicles (and the trailer when we had it) and bait it with dry dog food or peanut butter (dog food works best). I can't tell you how many rats and mice we've eliminated with these things. Some people say they don't work but, for us, they've been lifesavers.

Skunk

Preparing to hitch up to trailer, started truck, & the 6 different warning lights when on. Investigation under the hood revealed a loose serpentine belt. During the night, a ground squirrel sought heat from the engine, & failed to vacate before the engine was started.

Now part of our check off list, is check under the hood of the tow vehicle before starting the engine, to scare off any hitch-hikers who may still be sleeping in.

From the campground, truck had to be towed to mechanic with tools to remove squirrel, & reinstall a new serpentine belt. Costly, & messed up the time table for the whole day.

Forgot to mention: Mechanic said similar event happened to him. However, it was a skunk in his car's engine. Couldn't clean it up for 6 months, & couldn't sell the car, or dispose of it to pick a part, or any junk yard.
