We thought long and hard on the 5.0 before we decided on the 21C.

If I had the 6.5' bed on my F150 instead of the 5.5' the 5.0 would have been in our side yard instead of the 21C.

It's funny you say that since we heeded Karl's advice in one of his videos that the 5.0 should be pulled by a truck with 6' bed. So we went and upgraded our TV to a F150 with a 6.5' bed. Come to find out the ETI delivery vehicle for the 5.0 is indeed a 5.5' bed. We have also seen 5' bed trucks pulling 5.0s in pictures and in real life.

Still, no regrets on our end for upgrading to the longer bed, though. Extra room for fire wood and what have you.

Good to see someone referring to a 6.5' as 'longer' instead of long like many do. Having this bed myself it is the shortest in 40 years of owning a pickup as I always had an 8' bed. Tough to do real truck duties with shorter beds.

A lot of 5.0 owners tow with 5.5' bed trucks. It's true you cannot make a 90 degree turn with this bed length but I have never been in a situation where this is necessary.
In my case, I did have to install the rails and hitch myself as no trailer shop in the area wanted anything to do with setting up a 5.5' bed truck for fifth wheel towing.
My wife really likes the super crew cab configuration on our truck and the convenience of the larger cab somewhat offsets the limitations of the shorter box.

During that time my needs have changed from farm work and heavy hauling to travel and recreation. I kind of miss a couple of those old trucks but still prefer my current f-150 over any truck I've owned previously for towing the Escape.

I have a 12' utility trailer the need for hauling comes. But the 5.5' bed super crew fit into my garage with the ability to walk over to the 3rd car side. The 6.5' bed would have made that difficult.

The 6.5' bed was only wanted for the extra storage in front of the hitch.

The 5.0 is very cool!

We absolutely love the 5.0 floor plan and most likely would have gone with it, but our desire to RV travel with two kayaks (hence “YakRV” ;D) pretty much eliminated that option for us. Maybe we’ll make a 5.0 our “next” Escape, but for now we’re thrilled with our 21C.

Honestly I think any of the Escape models would qualify as an ideal couples camper.

It has the 5 liter V8 engine. Towing mpg at speeds of 65 mph and above it gets 12-13 mpg. At 60 mph or less it gets 14 mpg.
Not towing it gets 21 highway mpg.

The folks at Escape did a really good job of matching the trailer graphics color (vivid blue) to the color of the truck. It's almost an exact match.

Payload is 1977 lbs. GVW is 7000 lbs.
It is a basic XLT trim. Optioned with a V8 engine, 4x4, towing package, running boards and little else.

Thanks! It’ll be a while before we even think about the possibility of a newer Escape, but food for thought for sure. We’ve seen the kayak racks that extend to the front of tow vehicles before, but I think that line of sight obstruction out the front windshield would drive me nuts. Haha.

Of course, I think that 5.0 was the best. 1) Price$$ You divide your money between a truck and camper. 2) The truck can be useful between camping. 3) That 5th wheel will be more maneuverable. 3) That fiberglass shell is going to last. 4) To big and it's hard to park on that outlook up in the mountains. 5) Skinny RV means making your way easily around the campgrounds. 6) I'll leave to others to say...

We sold our 2018 Ford Platinum diesel pick up and couldn't be happier.

We tow an E19 with a JGC Summit and what a great combination and great ride quality. Pulls like a dream, realatively fuel efficient, and plenty of space. We have the roof racks on the JGC so we can bring Kyaks or a Yakima Skybox. With a 5.0 the pick up bed is full.

You have to do what you think is right for your situation.

We’re in line for a Silverado EV which apparently doesn’t support fifth wheels, if it wasn’t for that (the EV is non negotiable) we’d very likely get the 5. The price is great, the bed is big and lengthwise, a generous two compartment fridge, main downside is the wet bath and it’s a little small.

For comparison the Oliver is technically smaller in many ways - smaller fridge and tiny dinette and twice the price.

Great interior height too as I’m tall, I don’t follow what the 6’ 4” - 7’ range means.
