5.0 Fever

I should have never clicked on Escape’s website after a friend told me about this small fiberglass 5th wheel. I’m worried that I may have caught a fever. I’ve talked about finding a lightweight small 5th wheel that was nothing like the “Half Ton” Jayco product.

I have a F150 3.5 ecoboost 4-door 4-wheel drive with the max tow package and the short 5’ bed.

I was very worried that the short short bed was a deal killer. That is until I emailed Escape and within moment The President of the Company emailed me back say that is his setup. He sent pictures and said he uses the Andersen hitch sent back about 2” from the center line of the axle.

That’s when I knew I was very very ill with the 5.0 Fever.

Now I just need to sell my Harley and save a couple of coins..........

Dang 5.0 Fever!

A certain cure for how you feel is to place a deposit. ;) I have had mine for 3 years now, and we just love it. Mind you, the 19 I had for over 6 years was real nice to use too.

I need to step inside one. The closest owner is almost 6 hours away.

Maybe they can bring it down to me and let me camp in it for a weekend? :))

There may be some fifth wheels closer to you, just not on the show me list. Those owners may be amenable for you to look it over. If they see your post you will hopefully get a response. A lot of folks are pretty cautious owing to the pandemic. We’ve had Single axles and TA’s at the Mississippi River Rendezvous at Thompson Illinois in late September. Keeping fingers crossed for the rally this year. Don’t give up the hunt.

Email the factory and they will provide a list of owners nearest to you, perhaps another Escape model for you to see the quality. My first 2 Escapes were purchased sight unseen....a common occurrence once you drink the kool aid......:)

No Hurry

There’s no hurry, the World has gone viral so you’re covered. Best of luck on your order and acquisition.

We put down our deposit for a 5.0 as well with a delivery date of Oct 22. Have you decided on a 5th wheel hitch or the Anderson hitch? I see advantages to both.

Way to go Tim!

We’re still on the road to the 5.0 but selling our Harley and Covid are slowing down the purchase for the moment.

It would be nice to see a few more 5.0's up and down the Front Range. I get comments almost every time out now.

My favorite comments come from the guys that own the huge trailers that they move once a year. They seem to like the nimbleness of the 5.0.

Congrats Tim!

We had an Escape 17B for 5 years. We always thought we would upgrade to the 5.0TA, but in the end, we couldn’t give up the truck bed. After selling the 17B, we looked around at other manufacturers and yes, we have the same fever, ordered a new Escape 19. My wife said I wouldn’t be happy with anything else.

Another new trailer with more wheels

We have ordered a 5th wheel for January delivery. Now the fun(?) starts. This is our 4th Escape over 10 years so we are quite familiar except for the hitch. Which is the preferred for those that have used both types, the Andersen or a 5th wheel type.
We also have to go shopping for a new truck, either a F150 extended cab or a similar Dodge with the Hemi. Comments please.

Hi: azjack... After all this time!!! Con Graduations but I'm sorry to say there's no known cure for what you've got!!! :whistling: Alf

If you are going to need to remove the hitch from the bed at all go for the Anderson. I have a B&W which is easy to use and a very solid connection, but it's heavy at about 150 lbs, in 2 pieces.

I love the Andersen Hitch! If you don't need a clear, flat truck bed in your daily life, I would go with the rail mount Andersen. The footprint is a little smaller in the bed of the truck so there is more room to put other stuff back there. (like a cargo box).

I got the gooseneck model. And while I love having a clear bed when I'm hauling mulch, straw for the chickens, etc. When I'm towing I wish I had the little extra room of the rail mount.
