A Canadian tariff?

No telling yet how this will all finally play-out, but I do wish the best for folks with builds scheduled for completion / delivery after 1/20/2025 or contemplating an order.

Concerns and best hopes, too, for the good folks at ETI who could be significantly impacted.

I won't be surprised to see a near-term 'run' on the limited inventory stock.

We missed the 10% price increase in 2021 by one day. That increase would have had us cancelling our order.

A 25% tariff will most likely shutdown ETI.

It certainly could mean a sellers market for used Escapes in the US. Our trailer would have been almost $16k more and come in at $80k. It certainly must be anxious times at ETI.

That or it may force a USA manufacturing plant for them. The tariff would also impact Bigfoot.
True, which would likely take quite some time to bring on-line and would likely have its own product price implications (IMO likely a meaningful, if not 25%, price increase, due to the expenses involved in setting up new facilities).

I don't envy the business decisions these companies may face, wish both of them (and their potential customers) the best in what may be very difficult times.

Take this simple test. Look at the tags of some of your favorite things (hats/cars/laptops/phones/etc) and let us know where they are made.

My Formula One Ferrari hat that I have on now says Made in the Philippines, not Made in Italy. My New Era St. Louis Cardinal, my Harley Davison and my John Deere hats all says Made in China.

But at least my handmade Made in Mexico western boots that I walk into my Made in Canada Escape are being pulled down the road by my Made in Kansas City Ford F-150 while rolling on my Made in the USA Bridgestone KO2 tires.

Oh! My watch I still wear to keep track of "time" after retiring is Made in Switzerland and I own nothing Made in Russia.:ROFLMAO:

PS: Having had chemo in 2020 and radiation a little over a month ago along with being retired less than a month I tend to look at things with humor glasses on. :geek: Do not take life too seriously. It's just Tuesday morning.

Fixed ^that^ for ya ;)

Intended humor notwithstanding, folks should be aware that our F150s assembled in KC or Dearborn have very significant Canadian and Mexican manufactured parts content.

It's quite possible / likely that any tariffs will have a commensurately significant impact on pricing of those 'US made' vehicles, even if the imported parts content is reduced over time.

Bottom line, many US industries are highly 'vested' in the current North-American system of trade agreements. Any introduction of tariffs on those borders will likely have far-reaching product price implications for all of us.

I have to say, I am loving my alpaca sweaters made in Peru. So comfy. Found them on amazon for less than $60. They whup acrylic, cotton, and ordinary wool all to heck.

Fortunately we do not have to buy a new trailer. I’m sorry to hear that this is the Christmas present we can all expect, can’t return and don’t want. Speaking of Christmas I unpacked our Nativity Scene yesterday. I threw out all the Jews, Arabs and Foreigners. I was only left with a Jackass and a few sheep. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

FWIW, we picked up our 2019 E21C in January of 2019. Tariffs had been enacted but we found out that our trailer purchase was not included because of NAFTA. I do not know if that will still be the case but that was our experience. I was afraid that we would be swept up in the tarriff frenzy back then be we were not affected. Hoping it will be the same this time.

Hope is not a method. It never got me anything or anywhere, but it is a nice sentiment.

Peruse any Wal-Mart, with much of the items coming from China. Hello again inflation, self induced.

A 25% tariff would effectively kill the Canadian RV industry, except for maybe a handful of boutique manufacturers that cater to local domestic markets. However, that loss would be insignificant when compared with the potential impact to the broader Canadian export economy.

At this point in time, I don't think anyone can say with certainty as to what policies are going to be enacted on day one of the incoming administration. It might be best to not press the panic button until after 01/20/2025.

"Assembled" - Gotta remember that! :D

Yes! The world has changed in many ways since B.C.

Well that's shocking, mines made, well, you know where. Yours is made closer to Italy so I guess that it's more Italian than mine. :)

When I saw this thread I kind of held my breath. A serious topic for sure but I've seen these sorts of things in the past and until something actually is put into law I'm just an observer with no opinion.

Methinks that at this point we're all just in the same airplane at 30.000 feet, 'along for the ride', wherever that takes us, like it or not. Opinions matter not a whit, but there's no harm in having them; expressing them may be a different matter.

Perhaps the most profound and quotable quote of the year Dave.

Last I checked, all my coffee beans originated in countries whose names I can barely pronounce.

I hope this doesn't mean I have to switch to a soft drink called sarsaparilla!
