Historically we've managed discussing border situations before without any harm. Remember when ETI was restricted in their ability to export to the US.

As long as everyone plays nice I don't have any problem with discussions on what would be the effect on ETI.

The effect of tariffs is widely variable, so it is too early to make predictions. During the first Trump administration, China negated the US price effect of tariffs by devaluing their currency (vis-a-vis the dollar) and by subsidizing some industries. Other countries may take similar measures. The proposed 25% tariffs are intended to spur actions by Mexico and Canada to close their borders to illegal aliens. Quick actions could see them removed. And those are just some of the variables. . .

Having read this entire thread, all I can say with NO INTENTION of being political is that in the USA, your vote counts, and you get what you vote for. If inflation goes haywire due to tariff implementation and the citizenry becomes angry, there will be new elections in two years and a flip in who controls one or both houses of Congress can put the brakes on or redirect the direction of the country for the following two years if the voters decide that things are going in a direction they do not approve.

Speaking of Christmas I unpacked our Nativity Scene yesterday. I threw out all the Jews, Arabs and Foreigners. I was only left with a Jackass and a few sheep. Have a nice Thanksgiving.

I keep puzzling over this, so I guess I need the joke explained to me. I don't get it. How is it funny to mention throwing out some native residents and also the three immigrants who wisely checked in with the authorities (and got permission) when they arrived?

I usually think of myself as having a good sense of humor, but I guess it's not the first time I've missed the punch line. The other day a fellow at the senior center told me a joke about a guy who went to a lawyer and said, "I want to divorce my wife." The lawyer asked why. The guy said, "She hasn't spoken to me in 3 months." The Lawyer said, "Why do you want to get rid of such a good woman?" I sat there waiting for a punch line, probably because my wife is naturally very quiet and reserved, and if she didn't say anything to me for 3 months it would probably have been due to something I did wrong. So I was like, "Yeah... go on... what's the punch line?"

Take this simple test. Look at the tags of some of your favorite things (hats/cars/laptops/phones/etc) and let us know where they are made.

My Formula One Ferrari hat that I have on now says Made in the Philippines, not Made in Italy. My New Era St. Louis Cardinal, my Harley Davison and my John Deere hats all says Made in China.

But at least my handmade Made in Mexico western boots that I walk into my Made in Canada Escape are being pulled down the road by my Made in Kansas City Ford F-150 while rolling on my Made in the USA Bridgestone KO2 tires.

Oh! My watch I still wear to keep track of "time" after retiring is Made in Switzerland and I own nothing Made in Russia.

PS: Having had chemo in 2020 and radiation a little over a month ago along with being retired less than a month I tend to look at things with humor glasses on. Do not take life too seriously. It's just Tuesday morning.

Wayne. Gas seemed a little steep. The guy said they were just test marketing the sales level expected after the Tariffs were enacted.

That's more like it Dave! I actually chuckled despite having just gone out 20 minutes ago to my F-150 made in Kansas City to start it to find out I have no steering. We're supposed to return home from here just across the river from KC at Fort Leavenworth on Friday after celebrating thanksgiving tomorrow with the family. I already have a check engine light on and the Ford APP tells me it's an ignition problem in three cylinders. Earlier today I'd called my dealer at home to book it in for Tuesday, but now who knows when we'll get home. Fortunately have nearly 2000km left before warranty expires. Just hope this isn't an indication of what I'll expect after expiry. Truck's been fine so far except a few electronic issues.

As far as tariffs go I'll be surprised if they do come they'll be nowhere near the threatened 25%.

That reminds me, somewhere I have a photo of a gas station ( this was back in the days of film before digital existed). Their sign was showing a ridiculous price...9.99r something (someone had likely played with the numbers). But the sign in the station window said "closed...out of business". I told my friend...no wonder with those prices and took a photo of the juxtaposition. Found it to be rather humorous.
