Alaska 2025

I'm also doing the Alaksa Hwy this summer for the months of July and August. Leaving from Vancouver BC to Whitehorse where I lived from 1980-1986 and have returned approx. 50 times since. Then up to Dawson City, over the Top of the World Hwy to Delta Jct and then decide to go to either Denali, Kenai or Valdez. Back down to Haines Jct, then to Haines, AK, Back to Whitehorse then down the Stewart Cassiar and home. Side trips also to Atlin, BC and Skagway. 2 months sounds like a long time but its a BIG area. Maybe we see some of you on the road.

should clarify, I have returned to Whitehorse over 50 times but always by air. 35 years of an annual fishing trip to Haines, AK and many others just to visit friends. Have driven the Alaska hwy between Whitehorse and Fort St John 4 times but always zipped thru in 1 day so this time I'll actually enjoy the drive and stop along the way.

Maybe we see some of you on the road.
That would be great. Just before the kickoff in May, I'll post dates with the RV park info for MY trip. Let us know where we may intersect at that time. Enjoy the Spring!

LOL, my next big trip will be hanging down through Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. That's planned for 2026. And then in 2027, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. Wanna go?
Found this thread while still deciding which Escape to order. I apprechate the work you are putting into this trip and your willingness to share. I plan on saving as much info as possible for when I can make the trip myself. In the meantime, your ’26 & ’27 trips sounds like a great way to see that part of the country. Thank you

When we drove there we could see the train chugging along. Unless riding a choo-choo train is top of the list the scenery is the same by driving.

Might be, but as a single and solo traveler, it seems I'm ALWAYS driving. It's nice to let someone else take the wheel occasionally and then I can really look around and take pictures when I want.

I'm happy to see each new post to this thread with all the valuable info from Donna and others. We may travel to northern BC and Yukon this spring and there are tons of great resources here. If we go we'll be a month or so ahead of you. We've been up that way several times before and love it. We'll decide on whether to include Alaska again once we are in the north.

Okay, a calmer mind prevailed. At first blush that train tour looked like it would be just what I would like to do. Then Ron posted that "the scenery is the same by driving." Sigh. Got my maps out and he's correct. Other than the train tunnel and a bit of inland when the train go to the White Pass area. Since there's one road IN and the same road OUT of Skagway, we'll actually see this scenery twice. So unless you want to see it two more times..... I'm putting that $150 back into my Tour and Entertainment Budget pot. I'm SURE I'll find something fun to spend it on! YMMV

However, if you're taking an inland passage cruise and haven't been to Skagway, plan on that train trip!

and he's correct.
Oh, I have to show my wife that. For once. :)

We left our trailer in Carcross and made a day trip to Skagway. Worked out well.

Those that are staying at Dawson City, Yukon at the Gold Rush RV Park the same time as me, July 19-July 21, they've opened reservations EARLY. I just made reservations.

We got the reservations too.

Also, I’m ok with boondocking the night after, between here and Whitehorse, although I’m also fine with coalmine campground.

We'll see how it goes.... 40 miles south of Carmacks is the Braeburn Lodge. They're famous for their cinnamon rolls. AND, I keep hearing if you get there later and eat dinner in the lodge, you can dry camp in their large parking lot. I'll give them a call before leaving Dawson City.....

They're famous for their cinnamon rolls.
Well good luck with that. I don't think that we stopped there but we've driven great distances on the promise of great cinnamon rolls. And sometimes it's just promises, promises and a bit of hype. But, now that I've heard of them if I was in the area I'd have to try them out. Hope lives on. :)
