Alaska 2025

Iamunique127…..same place I think. We’re with Donna here in Meziadin PP now. Most of us here are used to bears of course but this is somewhat different. They’re 3 grizzlies seem to be sticking around here & causing some distress by regularly coming through the campground. Lots of evidence around the campsite. The park manager said that during the day they seem to hang out by the road for some reason & I do suspect those are the ones you saw. Apparently, they’ll come around your site & like popping your tires. Nice!

It’s a beautiful spot here & well worth the stop. Just be aware & add a little more caution than usual with your kids & pets. It is closed to soft-side camping equipment just for the time being.

Popping tires, that's a new one to me.

I'm thinking that there may be a difference in policy between our National Parks and our Provincial Parks. This guy was a regular at Jasper. The parks folks did monitor what he was up to but they weren't concerned enough to intervene. Folks kept their distance and he munched along and went back into the forest. He didn't even look at the tents probably because the park has a strict no food outside policy.

Stayed there a few years ago. Don't go for a walk if there are bears around and keep your pets in the trailer.
I have spent many a time hiking and tenting in bear country. If you respect them they will leave you alone. In fact, I have had way more run away from me than the other way around.

Bears around campgrounds, especially in busy areas to need to be watched closer.

I was about 100' from this guy in Alaska, thankfully I was in a kayak when I took the picture. He/she watched us but didn't seem too concerned.

Great photo! Makes the bear look sorta cuddly and friendly (but I know better). I will wait until the next life to pet the bears; your photo is as close as I want to be in this life (or I might find myself in the next one sooner than expected)!

Closures of the Alaska Highway due to fires.

You'll have a good chance to see dall sheep from the bus. We forgot to bring binoculars but those would have come in handy. Sheep can be seen fairly regular from the Seward Highway not far south of Anchorage along Turnagain Arm.

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. Saw on the world news that the weather service issued its first ever heat warning for Alaska. Times are a changing.

We can get very hot in the interior but they recently changed how a heat advisory is issued not relying on temperature alone. After a cold dreary May and half of June it has been a nice change but Denali is a bit smoky last couple of days due to lightning strike caused fires.
