With all the confusion of Tariffs on/off/on/off/unknown I've decided to forgo an Escape purchase for the near future . . as well as delaying a new Big-3 Brand tow vehicle purchase . . .

It is just so stressful and financially uncertain as to what the next months/years will be . . .
Adding in that U.S. Social Security Payments could decline well before the mid 2030's due to on-going current Administration mismanagement.

This is a real disappointment as I was planning to Spend My Wealth before the Kids & Grand-kids got it.

= = =

On the Plus side . . . just completed a 5-week travel trailer trip that was uneventful equipment wise but did get a bit cramped for space after 3-weeks (which is why a larger Escape is on my to buy list). But I can do another few years of 'camping' with the rig I've got.

It's just not What I Want . . . .

This thread obviously has the potential to delve into dangerous territory, in terms of forum rules…

So in an attempt not to be the one who takes it there, all I’ll say is no, I don’t think you’re alone!! While I already have an Escape, my beloved 2018 E19, I had been thinking about trading my tow vehicle for a new one, before it depreciates too much. That is unlikely to happen now, due to all the recent uncertainty.

But it’s all good, as I’m also very fond of my TV and had mixed feelings about trading it. As long as she continues to be trouble free, I’ll be sticking with her.

I think that’s a good strategy… hunker down for now, try to enjoy what you already have, and hope for clarity in the future.

And if it goes there, it will immediately be closed.

I'm in the same boat, I was going to trade my truck in for a new one when I got back from Alaska. Now, I'm not so sure. Thankfully I too like my truck and it's been trouble-free and has low miles. We'll see....

One thing my Mom told me years ago: Never, ever delay pleasure. We're only given so many days on this earth with good health, etc. Don't lose those, use those. My new Mantra... if not now, when?

I suggest keeping your eye on the For Sale ads here on the forum and look for a used Escape in the US. You just may come across one that is equipped how you like it. There have been several essentially new models listed lately, including 23'ers. It might mean a cross country trip to pick one up but isn't travel what it's all about?
You may end up paying more of a premium for a newer, used tow vehicle now but lightly used ones are often available, too.
I don't know about the US but here in Canada the domestic car lots seem to be packed with new trucks. At Toyota there is a two year wait for a new vehicle but at the big three there are lots of trucks. Seems weird to me but that's what I've observed.

We had the same reservations, but the "Tariff Free" offer by Escape helped us make our decision. We are "trading in" our 2021 21NE for a new 23, using the "Switch and Hitch" program.. We thought we would be traveling for just 2 years, but we aren't yet finished as we begin year 3. So, we want a bit more elbow room and the 23 fits our needs. Our estimated completion date is May 22! And we are picking this one up in Chilliwack. 😁

If you go to the Escape website they say they will absorb the cost of tariffs ...
I can see that would give some initial stability to folks but if the current situation goes on for any length of time I can't see that it could be sustainable. That's a huge hit and at some point I think they'd be forced to either give up that policy or go bankrupt.

I got the impression it is for purchases made by mid-June. I could be mistaken

That would make sense but it'd still be a massive hit.

It's also probably a similar to the auto situation where components get imported and then exported getting a double or more hit. What a mess.

I suspect we could sell our 2014 for close to what we paid for it nearly 10 years ago. yes, it has some upgrades, including 5200 watt*hours of lithium and a 360 watt solar panel, and a Norcold DC compressor fridge.

It is nice to know I'm not alone in my purchase timing - - confusion.

Yes, not clear if those offers will be available when I decide . . . as a glass half empty person, my planning says no.

That said, presently have a 4x4'ing Trip planned for southeast British Columbia in early May. Am considering extending trip to visit Escape Showroom.

Yes, I do look at the used ads.
It is unlikely one will meet my wish-list. First, I seem to like the lower popularity floorplans. Second, I really want the newer Acrylic Windows and shade/screen system. My current trailer has these and they are sooo nice. In fact, the lack of a Acrylic Window system was why I stopped a Casita order in 2024.

. . . What trailer did you use on your trip?
nuCamp 320S, super teardrop (my yr-2018 is nice, while newer model years have 'enhancements' I don't like/want)

You need to delete this whole sentence from the 2nd para..................

"Adding in that U.S. Social Security Payments could decline........xxxxxxxx............."

Seems like Escape is covering the tariffs up to 25% for US purchases, but there is a risk if a higher tariff is imposed. Not worried about any impacts on Social Security other than the funding problem that has existed for decades through multiple administrations. I am worried about how the economy is going to respond to all the tariffs in the next year, so will probably delay any high dollar purchase until I can get a better read on where the economy is headed. Not a big sacrifice since we really won't have much time to use a trailer this year or early next year.

We didn't delay. Ordered after the election, after tariffs were announced as a potential, in November, picking up next week. Seems to be working out perfectly for us at this point, and we're over the moon!

But then, we paid double-digit mortgage interest during the Carter recovery years (and thought we were lucky to be new homeowners), and suffered job-loss due to some economic policies in '09--notified that year, and department terminated in '11. So, economic uncertainty and challenge has been something we've experienced and managed to navigate through over the years, and still have enough of the nice shiny things to make life pretty good.

We appreciated Escape's offer to pay the tariffs if necessary, although we won't need them to (since they haven't been enacted) It is a generous offer, and seems like the perfect antidote to the "uncertainty."

Life is uncertain. Anyone have Covid on their Bingo card 6 short years ago? There are no guarantees. I choose to enjoy my life every day because I may be gone next year, next week, or tomorrow, and I'd hate to have wasted the remaining time worrying about things that may never happen.
Well said. Really looking forward to enjoying my brand new 21C starting next week when we pick it up in Chilliwack.
