Anyone Tow a 21C with a 2024 Nissan Pathfinder?

Bought our 2024 Pathfinder with the tow package because it was the only midsized SUV that was rated for 6000lbs. I had originally planned to stay at 3000-3500lbs trailer weight when we purchased. But I have fallen in love with a used Escape 21C for sale. It was 4000lbs off the lot. So I am now considering going to 80% of towing capacity, which is 4800lbs. We travel very light, and we will not be over the payload for the Pathfinder. Would love to know if anyone else has had success with a Pathfinder and 21C. Thank you!

That's a good bit of trailer for that car. I have a jeep GC. It is rated for 7500 lbs. I tow a loaded down 17a with it. I could see doing a 19, but anymore i think would lead to a good bit of vehicle and driver stress. On the flats you may be fine. Have fun out there!

Have a 2020 J-GC w/tow package, 3.6L V6, 295HP & 260 ft/lbs. torque, 6200lb tow rating, very similar specs to a 2024 Pathfinder. Pulling a lightly loaded 2021 E19, under most typical conditions it's adequate, stable, provides a comfortable & relatively stress free driving experience. A wider & heavier E21 would likely be too much; braking, transmission, suspension load, engine stress, overall wear & tear would be the deal breaker for me.

On paper it looks safe and within all limits. I wouldn't want to do it.

I try and pass people towing larger trailers then me with smaller vehicles, as quick as possible, as they scare me just seeing them on the road.

Your 1400 lb payload should be okay, unless you have 3-4 adult passengers.

figure 4500-5000 lbs for an E21 as its actual camping weight. cooking gear, food, beverages, clothes, trailer stuff (chocks, blocks, tools, etc). Figure on a full tank of fresh water at least some of the time if not most and full propane tanks. etc etc. I'm pulling mine with a 2019 Ford Expedition 4x4 with the HD tow option, rated at 9300 lb tow capacity.

The Expedition isn't *that* much larger than a Pathfinder.

Wheelbase is a pretty big factor in regards to "Size" and in that regard the Expedition is a lot different 122.5" in the Expedition and 114.2" in the Pathfinder. There's a much lower chance of rotation with that longer wheelbase.

You framed the "No Parking" sign perfectly.
