Are 5th wheel hitches easily removable.

Thanks Alf any info I get is important to me. This really the proverbial can of worms.
Hi: Not so Big Al... I know it all sounds so complicated...but it's not. Fear of the unknown is what makes opening a COW so. Nice part is if you're doing a one nite stand and on a fairly level spot, you don't need to unhitch. Staying for a few nites... drop the trailer and use the truck for touring. Much better than a MoHo IMHO. Alf

Alf, good info on the brake contoller. I like your way of rigging the brake controller. The installer was telling me I had to go on a test drive and apply the brakes to the point that the trailer did not lock up. I kind of gave him the dear in the headlight look as I didnt like the idea of pulling the trailer and locking the wheels up with the controller. With the cost of the tires these days etc etc etc, I surely did not want to abuse our new home. We named it "Day Break" by the way... we thought it was very fitting as it will a be a way for us to get away from the daily grudge of the life in the airline industry!

Thanks Again!

Alf's procedure just checks that the brake system is functioning. It seems like a good idea after each time the trailer is hitched up, but it doesn't help determine the appropriate controller adjustment.
The installer was explaining how to determine the right adjustment for the controller, as described in the installation manual for a typical controller. That only needs to be done once.

While the subject of 5th wheel hitches is up...

Just bought a Nissan Frontier with 6 foot bed. Considering the 5.0, and I'm wondering about putting storage bins in the bed along with the hitch, something like a "pork chop" style, or such.
WEATHER GUARD Pork Chop Truck Boxes

Would there be clearance?
