Awning attachment question

The awning on our 5er is attached to the upper edge of the trailer body by a plastic (polyethylene?) rod which is captured in a metal slot riveted to the trailer body. It is held in place by a square-drive screw at each end.

The rod sticks out about 1.5 inches aft of the slot and appears to be about 1.5 inches back from the front edge of the slot. It looks like it might have slipped to the rear, although the awning itself is properly wrapped around its reel. I don't think the whole awning has slipped aft, just the anchoring rod.

It may be this is normal, or it may mean I get to do a bit of tinkering. Can anyone verify if their awning anchoring rod is captured completely within the roof mount, or if a part of it extends aft.

Hi Garand...Dave: Yes the tiny square drive (Robertson) (Canadian Eh)!! screws are to hold the nylon/plastic cord & fabric in the awning rail. I think you could loosen them slightly and gently slide the awning fabric and cord forward. I don't think the alignment is too critical but the screws should be in the rail tho. Alf

I was actually able to slide the plastic cord forward without moving the awning. There is a sleeve sewed into the awning material and the rod slid just fine. A second thank you for the real name for screws. I now have to look five people up on Wikipedia; Mr. Allen, Mr. Roberson, Mr. Phillips, Mr. Star and Mr, Slotted.

And, the reason that Mr. Robertson lost out to Mr. Phillips is the auto industry. The advantage of the Phillips is that the screwdriver slips out of the screw ( whether you want it to or not ) and the square Robertson doesn't slip. So, when using machines to fasten screws, it's better if the driver slips rather than drives the screw too far.

Hi: Garand...Dave; Another advantage with Mr. Robertsons screws is that they can be inserted on the end of the driver and held upside down and not fall off. This is great for acrobats.
