Basic rv for beginners,,,,

I have ordered an Escape19. Do I need the extra LED vertical brake lights, perhaps if carrying bikes on the back?

Even if you don't use the the bike rack, the extra visibility is an extra safety feature for a relatively small expense.

I added the extra brake lights so that the cars behind the one directly behind me can see the lights. Too many distracted drives reduces reaction time, so I'll add every advantage I can!

I would not be real concerned though, as the amount of glow they produce will be seen, even indirectly.

Still, I say get them. I had to add them on later.

Hi: Doug... My wife insisted on having them for extra visibility at the rear. Alf

I have them and I don't even have a bike rack. My son followed me home from pick-up and said the trailer was lit up like a Christmas tree. They're like an RV version of the Dole lights in cars.

I did too. I think it has been worth it. Added visibility helps.;)

When traffic stops suddenly in front of me and I hit the brakes, It is important to me that: the car behind me, the driver of that car, and the phone at his ear, all light up bright red, thus preserving the rear of my tow-towed combo.
Cheap, important insurance!

Don didn't know about this at the time but would of definitely gotten them . Right now on rear bumper added reflectors all across back . Pat

Since you already have wiring there (thinking that the camera is above the back window), I wonder how easy it would be to add lights.

Someday Sandra . Too much going on right now . I need to get my frig back first . Lots also at home . That never ends . To top it off injured my knee . Hate getting old . By the way did you get your traveling companion yet ? Pat

A better plan is to keep your eyes on the road ahead so that you don't have to suddenly slow or stop. Leave lots of room in front and look far ahead.

I know I do . I try to be extra careful but my camera is right there with sound on my truck dash .I drive my kids nuts how I drive . They think they will live forever .I am not ready yet . Lots to see and do . Pat

The rear-view cameras that come factory only work when the vehicle is in reverse. They do that for a reason.
Watching the guy behind you tailgate is only going raise your anxiety level and your blood pressure and maybe cause you to do something unsafe.

I have not driven with a backup camera on, and do not really see a need to do so either. I don't think it adds any safety factor, and like you said could possibly cause more trouble than it could save. I can tell with a glance in the mirrors if someone is behind me, and how close. There is little I can do about where he is anyway.

The only reason I would get a camera back there is for backing up seeing cars behind me won't help me I can't stop them from plowing into me if that's their bent. I am thinking about getting the tow mirrors I've never used them. will I be able to see in my blind spot ? I always get a little spooked when changing lanes quickly. They seem so expensive 130ish but probably worth it.
