Beartooth Highway

I am supposing that there is a refrigerator and four batteries in there somewhere.

I am really flattered but no solar and multiple batteries....yet, however, it does have an internal capacity for 3 full cases of good wine. Notice in the picture the fishing rods strapped to the front and the bag of fly fishing gear on the rear platform...although hunting for good local beers soon be the theme of the trip!

I've only done the Beartooth Highway on a motorcycle (highly recommended). I'm guessing that doing 40mph on a 20mph corner isn't as much fun while towing a trailer.

But that road is just as beautiful!

While the Beartooth is a beautiful drive, my favorite road is still the Going to the Sun highway in Glacier National Park.

Another great drive in the Beartooth area is the Chief Joseph Highway. It is close enough to the Beartooth that doing both is possible...

We missed the Beartooth Hwy by some 50 miles last September. Traveled through on Hwy 14. Next time for sure. Then we'll add the Chief Joseph.

Our trip was from Oregon for a couple of weeks in the Big Horn mountains. Some nice country and camping there also. A few pictures buried in our 2015 Christmas letter right after Arizona. (It'll be up till Christmas 2016

We just got back from Montana and pulling the 15A over the Beartooth Highway. Check your rig (especially your brakes) if you decide to go. A gorgeous area to explore and not nearly as busy as Yellowstone.

This was taken at the summit of the Beartooth Highway on a 6,000 mile motorcycle trip. Great road!

Planning on leaving for the Beartooths next Wed. (8/03). We'll probably spend the first night (or 2) in the South Pass (WY) area,and then move up to Hunter Peak CG. We have reservations there from 8/05--0 and hope to move to Beartooth Lake or Island Lake for several more days. Hope to do a fair amount of day hiking while we're there. Plan to return to the Cody area (Buffalo Bill State Park), after our stay in the Beartooths and then back to Salt Lake (perhaps with a stay at Sinks Canyon State Park, WY). We enjoyed a similar trip (with our T@ in 2012 and are looking forward to enjoying the spectacular Beartooths in our Escape. Agree with others comments on the quality of the scenery in the area!

Beartooth

If staying at Island Lake campground, the hike to Beauty Lake is well worth the effort. If you still have energy you can carry on to Mutt and Jeff Lakes (seriously!). The trail to Beartooth Falls is a little hard to find but spectacular. Clay Butte Lookout is also nice. I would give a miss to the KOA in Red Lodge as it is just adequate (and more money).

Thanks for the suggestions! We did several of these hikes on our 2012 trip and agree that they're great choices. One of the attractions of the Beartooths for us is the numerous hikes to the various lakes on the Beartooth plateau. It will be very nice to get out of the record-breaking heat we've been experiencing here in Salt Lake.
